Hobby an Hymer caravans

Natali

Recommended Posts

Hi Natali

I've just looked at a Hobby de luxe easy caravan 2004 and was surprised at what I regarded as an old fashioned look to the bodywork outside. I'm no great expert on caravans having only ever had only one viz. a Swift Pirouette. I took note of a ladder going on to the roof of the Hobby and wondered if this might in time become a problem with water getting in. (ingress) Could apply to any make! Anyway I'll be watching your replies with interest.

Does anyone know if there is somewhere on the web to look up a site giving objective information on the different makes in the way that "Which"does in it's magazine. I have not been a subscriber to "Which" to date and seen only occasional copies.

p.s. Is it possible to remove the two bunks at the rear of the hobby, beside the double bed, without interfering with the structure of the van?

Brandon:

Yes, you are quite right, Hobby still retain a traditional dimpled aluminium skin for their caravans' bodywork, concentrating all their 'styling' efforts on the interiors.

For an answer to your bunks-removal question you might try www.adlingtoncaravans.co.uk or you could see if anyone on the Practical Caravan forum knows (www.practicalcaravan.com), as some Hobby owners have participated there.

Thanks Derek,

Just as I thought......... appears to be an old fashioned look. I honestly had difficulty believing that it was a 2004. Going back tomorrow for another look. And you are right. Very refined inside.

What's with these stars on the windows upon which we type. Are we being quality graded or what ???? Youve earned some purple hearts there ...oops! Sorry Purple STARS.

New to this site. Why is it not more lively?

Go to the 'Welcome Box' towards the top right corner of this web-page and click on the 'Home' icon. Then select the "Announcements" forum, followed by the "Forums FAQ" thread. Then scroll down until you reach the 7th entry beginning "Q: What are the little stars...?"

Liveliness on internet forums will depend on the size of the forum 'population' and/or the willingness of the people to participate actively. The Motorhome Matters forum element of the Out&About Live website is pretty 'lively', despite having a resident population that I'd guess numbers below 300. However, there is a small core (perhaps no more than 20) of ultra-active participants that keeps the thing hammering along.

Based on the 'Views' statistic, this Caravan Chat forum has a much smaller population and the 'Replies' figures indicate this population is passive rather than active. Perhaps the chatty caravanners are gossiping away on alternative caravan-specific forums, or this forum is hard to find? Dunno the answer I'm afraid.

I've done all that Derek. You'll never shut me up now that I know what those stars are for. But what about Natali's original question. She's not getting a whole lot back on that, is she? Surely someoone out there in cyber space can come up with something

For you Natali: I went back today and had another look at that hobby i was thinking of buying. Really it was a super van but that model would have suited me far better ten years ago when my five children were still children. The spec is a family spec for that particulsr van, so I passed. Super van though I must say, albeit reservations re. above. Good value too with awning for 12000 euro. (£8000.) At the end of the day, it is all about what suits your needs best isn't it? I presume that most vans are structurally sound and mostly, and I say mostly, that after that it is a question of your needs in lay-out.

Derek: I bought the fleetwood for £8000 without awning. I'm now on the lookout for a good Isabella awning to suit my "new" van

Regards to all

Brandon

P.S. thanks again for the pointers.

Natali's inquiries tend to be open-ended and, in this instance (in my view) unanswerable unless she provides more guidance.

Go to the 'Welcome Box' towards the top right corner of this web-page and click on the 'Search' icon. Now type "Natali" (omitting the quotation marks) in the 'Filter by author' box and select "All posts" from the Date limit selection lower down. Now click on Submit and you'll retrieve a list of her past postings.

You'll find that this particular question was originally asked on the Motorhome Matters forum (Posting is titled "Hobby" and dated 28/2/2007) and you'll note that attempts were made to answer it and to try to obtain a tighter focus on what Natali was actually looking for. I leave you to decide whether or not we did our best.

I have had an Isabella awning always but now need to buy again to fit my new van. I've always believed that Isabella is the very best make in awnings and have no reason to believe otherwise. Am I right or have things moved on? (?)

Might be more productive for you to repeat your question as a 'New Thread', otherwise it will just get lost within Natali's Hymer/Hobby enquiry.

Go to the 1st page of the Caravan Chat forum and click on the "new thread" box towards the top-left of the page beneath "WHICHCARAVAN". Then copy your question into the Message box and give it a suitably provocative Subject title - "Isabella awnings - are they the best?" for example. No help from me I'm afraid as I've no practical experience of caravans and haven't a clue which awnings are good and which aren't.

Regards,

Derek

Thanks again Derek. God, I'm really new to this navagation of sites and where best to post questions. Everything seems very quiet at this neck of the woods. I wonder if I should abandon it altogether and head off into another hunting ground. It seems like just you and I and the occasional other. What do yhou think? :'(

When it comes to visiting internet forums, promiscuity is not a vice.

If you use GOOGLE and the search-term "caravan forum" (omitting the quotes) you'll find plenty of choice. Here are just three:

www.practicalcaravan.com

www.caravanning4u.co.uk

www.caravan-sitefinder.co.uk

Best of luck.

Derek

Hello Natali,

You might be interested in the reviews of TEC caravans in the May issue of Caravan Motorhome & Camping Mart (on sale April 13), as they have similar layouts and specifications to those from Hobby and Hymer. We are hoping to feature Hobby, Hymer and Fendt, as soon as we can find a dealer with suitable models in stock.

I've found you some Hymers for you Natali and I'm now trying to find a selection of Hobbys. I will put the Hymers into the June issue of Caravan Motorhome & Camping Mart but the Hobbys might have to wait until the following month.

Regards,

Peter

Try this link.  takes you to a website of caravan breakers who sell recovered/salvaged spares.  I suspect you'll need to give them details of the window construction/ type/ size and colour (tint).  If you can identify an original manufacturer's mark on the window that may help.

Good Luck.

If Natalie is still interested, I came across a smashing little Hobby Excellent Easy, which would probably appeal to anybody who likes the Adria Adiva 432PS, sharing its build quality, but with a completely different style. Like the Adria it has a rear lounge, but is that really so important. It will be in the September issue of Caravan, Motorhome & Camping Mart, where you can compare its U-shaped lounge layout with an Adria Adora 532UP and a Cristall Moorea 530UB - all excellent caravans in different ways.
