ALAN G
Has anyone been prevented from dumping toilet waste containing formaldehyde at any campsite in either Spain or Portugal?
michele
Are you talking about the Blu loo stuff and if so does it contain that stuff. We used to use it to keep body parts in at work.

Randonneur
We looked into this problem last year and emailed Thetford as we have a Septic Tank unfortunately we didn't get a reply. We did, however, get a reply from Fiamma. Dear Mrs. Wilkinson, we confirm you that is possible to discharge our Super Kem into a Fosse Septique. We remain at your disposal for further information. Dave Newell
I can't comment on Spain or Portugal but our favourite site here in Shropshire is on a septic tank and they ask you not to use chemicals in your loo as it can cause problems with the septic tank. When we go there we just empty the loo daily and not using chems is not a problem. D.
Derek Uzzell
It's possible there are now restrictions in Spain and Portugal on use of products containing formaldehyde (GOOGLE-searching gave some suggestion of this). Whatever the case, formaldehyde is a very unfriendly substance ecologically and definitely bad news for septic-tank sewage systems. None of the current Thetford and Fiamma toilet chemicals contain formaldehyde, but I think the basic Elsan 'Blue' stuff still does. If a toilet chemical has a formaldehyde component then this should be clearly marked on the labelling. Some time back there was strong speculation that use of toilet chemicals on campsites would be banned EU-wide and SOG-type systems on leisure-vehicles would become de rigueur. It hasn't happened - yet!
Clive
Hence SOG or PONGO are the way to go. C.
Norma
Clive Would love to use Pongo - any advice for a marine toilet? Ours is attached to a 40 + litre holding tank!
