Fridge question

Hi all

I have a 2004 Fiat Trigano tribute and the Light on the control keeps flashing when it is on gas I think it is working but I have not had it on for long enough yet.

It works on Hook up and When the engine is running and the light is stable on both of them.

How do you get to the flu and Flame to check if it is lit I have taken the outside covers off and I can not get to anything.

Hi

When you switch it to gas and the light is flashing, you should hear the clicking of the igniter and if you listen very carefully you will hear the flame.

Just check first the gas to the fridge is switched on.

It’s a manifold of maybe 3 or 4 taps.

You an also check without seeing the flame.

You should feel heat from the upper vent on the outside of your MH

On-line photos/videos for a 2004 Trigano Tribute suggest that the fridge is a relatively small capacity Dometic 3-way model.

The photos also suggest that the fridge’s gas-flue may exhaust through a dedicated section of the upper ventilation grille as pictured on this webpage

https://motor-roam.co.uk/dometic-electrolux-fridge-burner-and-flue-servicing

Removing the exterior ventilation grilles may or may not provide sufficient access to allow work to be carried out with the fridge in situ, but with the grilles off you should easily be able to tell if it’s running on gas.

Trying to get someone in Stoke to do Hab checks or servicing is very hard as our main Fiat dealer has sold out to a big company just selling cars.

Mike.

AIUI, Guest/Sherwood Truck and Van have reasonably recently opened a Fiat Professional site in Stoke (with at least one of Platts ' staff joining them. Whilst my own experience of the chain has been mixed (largely in term of organisation rather than workmanship), it might provide you (vehicle) servicing options.

Although a Fiat Professional agency should be competent to carry out servicing on Fiat Ducato-based motorhomes, it is unlikely to perform ‘habitation’ servicing, nor to deal with problems with appliances like fridges and heaters.

For a 2004-vintage motorhome, it’s probably better to look for a business that specialises in motorhomes and can carry out ‘mechanical’ as well as ‘habitation’ tasks. For example this firm

https://www.caramotorhomes.co.uk/

(There are others in the Stoke area.)

It would be useful to know the make and model of fridge fitted to Mike’s Tribute, but the norm for earlier fridges is that, when the gas-operation procedure is commenced and the orange switch is depressed and starts to flash, the fridge’s gas-burner should light and the orange switch should stop flashing.

If the fridge’s gas-burner does not light, the orange switch will keep flashing and the reason for the burner failing to light will need to be investigated.

If the fridge’s gas-burner does light but the orange switch still keeps flashing, the reason for the switch not stopping flashing will need to be investigated.

Both issues may simply be due to a fridge not having been serviced recently and soot/clinker having dropped out of the gas-flue into the gas-burner.

There is a well-established forum for Trigano Tribute motorhomes

and a Facebook group

My post was simply a reply to the bemoaning of the demise of the local Fiat main dealer who used to take on motorhome work (presumably Platts, who had a reputation for it).

It was to point out that main dealer facilities are now available in the vicinity again, with Guest/Sherwood Trucks having recently opened a local branch.

Nothing more than that.

Hissey's on the A34 at Hanford did the motorhomes for Marsons and Platts. Who then charged main dealer prices.

Taking the bottom vent off, two clips on the left, reveals the burner and flue so you can check if it lights.

Usually soot or rust dropping from the "chimney", or the tiny hole in the burner getting blocked.

I knew that - my posting was an observation not in any way critical.

Mike has an unhappy history involving a motorhome dealership, but, if a dealer with a good reputation can be found in the Stoke area and that dealership can handle vehicle and habitation servicing for Mike’s motorhome and trouble-shoot vehicle/habitation problems, this might be preferable, more convenient (and probably cheaper) than using separate firms for each task.

A mobile engineer might be an alternative for ‘habitation’ servicing. For example

Don't forget that on older simpler fridges it was necessary to push and hold in the gas thermostat knob until the gas ignited and the light went out.

Worth saying, though it’s to be hoped Mike is aware of that procedural requirement.

My experience With Sherwood truck and van was not very good I went to ask them about a gear leaver problem that I was having with my Fiat trigano and they looked at it said it was the cable and go and get it myself and they would fit it there estimate was just for fitting was around I think four to Five hundred pounds when I went back with the cable they said they could not fit it as they did not have time (Too Busy).

So I went to a local garage and they said that there was nothing wrong with the cable it was the dowel that connects from the cable into the gearbox that was dirty they took it out cleaned it and did the Job for eighty quid.

No, my posting will not be relevant to your fridge.

A Manual for the Dometic RM 7271 l fridge can be found here

and I’ve copied below the guidance relating to operating the fridge on gas.

I notice that in 2014 Colin Weston had a gas-operating problem with his Dometic RM 7271L fridge

Hi Derek,

I tried the number you gave me in Market Drayton But that one was Not ringing out.

I rang the one for DK Edwards a mobile engineer and that has changed to 01782 890203 Home: and his Mobile number is 07811488893 he came out to me and found a fault on the loom a white block with a row of wires connected to it he cleaned it up and it worked.

He quoted me £60 but when he had finished the job he only charged £35 so all in all a good honest job.

He did say though that the loom might need changing in the near future but see how I go with it.

Mike.
