"Blue" passports

Oh dear......apparently the "blue" passports aren't blue enough and look more black! (lol)

The Home Office has issued pictures of the post-Brexit passport, describing it as a return to the "iconic blue" used for UK passports before 1988.

Experts in the science of colour - and instant experts on social media - are unconvinced, saying they look more like black.

The stupidity of folk falling for the lies fed to them over it by Leave campaign propaganda was always laughable. And then UK gov hand the contract to print 'em to a French-Dutch company!

Just another example of Johnson not delivering what the LeaveEU fanatics trumpeted about. This is what the HoC statement said;

Blue passports without the words ‘European Union’ will be issued from late 2019 in a phased approach.

The Government explains: “if you renew your passport between late 2019 and early 2020, you’ll be issued with either a blue or a burgundy British passport. You will not be able to choose whether you get a burgundy or a blue passport during this time.

All British passports issued from early 2020 will be blue.”

EU laws on public procurement state that the award of contracts by EU countries must be non-discriminatory to prevent “buy national” policies and promote free movement of goods and services between EU countries.

The previous company, De La Rue was printing them at Gateshead but lost the contract after Gemalto put in a lower bid which May accepted as it would save taxpayers £120 million over a five year contract. De La Rue had exactly the same opportunity as Gemalto.

You should have said you were more than willing to start paying lots more tax so you could have your passports printed here.

Imagine being so upset that passports aren't printed here in the UK

A lot of people were extremely angry at the time I seem to remember and many toys were thrown out of prams. Cruella Patel called it a National Humiliation.

Eh? Your saying why would anyone be upset about where the passports were made. I was just reminding you that at the time there was uproar from Brexiteers and the likes of Pratel.

She was annoyed government let work go to Johnny foreigner....not sure why so angry as Brexit has got rid of a lot more than 430 passport printers over the past four years. And Gateshead voted 57% Leave so some Turkeys voted to lose their own jobs. She said, "The return of our iconic blue passport will re-establish the British identity. But to be putting the job in the hands of the French is simply astonishing. It is a national humiliation.".........not realising her own government sold off huge chunks of UK industry long ago through de-nationalisation and privatisation. It's partly what makes Brexiters silly soundbite of "taking back control" so stupid and meaningless but the cultists love daft crap like that.

Braindead only comes on this forum to post his usual bile bait everyone ignores, or troll and disrupt threads i've made as that's all he's got left to try since i no longer engage with his inane childish comments. Cart him back off to your fruitloop forum.

Funny YouGov poll from 2017 with the death penalty and blue passports top of the list, wanting pounds and ounces, but oddly not too keen on pre-decimal currency! *-)

Along with silly headers from Brexiters fave "reads", a motley collection of nutters outside number 10, and Cummings assistant saying "wiv gorra our blu passports back". (lol)(lol)

So claims on here that the government gave the contract to a Franco Dutch company are shown to be false as the E.U regulations that you quote show that the contract has to be given to the lowest E.U. bidder. As to paying higher taxes to allow the passport to be printed in this country if that was permitted at £85.50 a pop there is plenty of wriggle room as the cost cannot be anywhere near that sum 8-)

No they don't show that at all. Simply that the award of contracts by EU countries must be non-discriminatory to prevent “buy national” policies. In other words a level playing field enabling bids to be made by any EU country which naturally included UK. Gemalto got the contract as their bid was lower and i've already made it clear De La Rue had exactly the same opportunity.
