stevec176
My van went into the dealers to have a gas valve replaced on the hob but now the ring next to it wont stay lit. It lights without a problem but when I release the knob it goes out. The ring worked before it went in so I contacted the dealer and spoke with the techy that replaced the valve and he didnt even know about the thermo couple. I'm assuming it's probably the thermo couple so can anyone help with advice on checking or replacing it please.
thebishbus
Is the tip of the thermo couple still in the gas flame ? Has the connecting copper pipe been damaged or the other end dislodged from its fitting when the valve was replaced ? If all looks ok, I would say it's the thermo couple. Brian B. Caddies104
Hi Just had the same last week, and cannot explain why but was told the answer,,, When the knob is in off position, pull it out by a few millimetre thus enabling it to be pushed in further. Then try lighting it, :-) *-) :-> Here’s hoping ??
colin
I've had this happen a couple of times, wriggle the connections to the thermocouple and 'jobs a goodun'
flicka
A "techy who doesn't know about a thermocouple ? The mind boggles !!!!
stevec176
Thanks all, hopefully sorted. After gaining access I saw that there is what looks like a shield around the valves, this had been bent out of the way instead of being removed. It looked rather too close to the valves and thermocouple connections so I managed to straightened it up a bit and hey presto the ring ignited and stayed lit. Did several test lights and it now works again. Not much can be said about the techy, well there is but not here.
