Extension Cable

Thank you chaps. :-) I read the description on the website, but didn't delve further as I'd assumed that anyone wanting to sell a meter with multiple functions would advertise it as such, and not just as a Voltmeter! Looks useful - if you have available rail space to mount it in your "consumer unit".

Not much help but don't just coil your cable up all one way as otherwise you end up with a tangled mess like most of them I see on site. I couldn't even begin to write down how to coil it up but I dare say some kind person will attach a youtube link?

You just coil it alternative ways to each coil but you have to remove the kinks before you start coiling it up properly it will then lay flat.

There are several YouTube videos about storing a long extension cable - this is an example

This method is OK, but I want to ‘bag’ my hook-up cables, which means they have to be coiled quite tightly. No great problem with my 10m cable, but coiling the 25m cable is a pain. Realistically, for a really long hook-up cable, it’s better to have it on a reel, but that has its own implications.

Do you have a link for this unit? It may well have helped us on the French site recently!

There are lots of them on eBay - here's one similar to the one I fitted a couple of weeks ago: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-AC-10-100A-Voltmeter-Ammeter-LED-Dual-Digital-Volt-Amp-Meter-Gauge/184270804853?hash=item2ae7655775:g:lbQAAOSwrHNepp~T

I went for the LCD one because the back light is optional and I didnt want the screen lighting up the van at night. Plus LED use more power and look cheap.

I also bought a box for it...

Delivery times on that one are quite long as it's coming from China. This is another alternative, which is LCD although still coming from China, but a bit quicker.

There might be someone selling it who has stock in the UK! I managed to find someone in the past, but can't easily see one today.

If you don't want the back light it's no better. It might suit others though. Since I had it inside a cupboard I didn't worry about the light and it has the benefit of immediately letting you know that the hookup is still on!

This one has the current transformer built into the circuit board so you need to put it somewhere that you can easily loop a wire through the transformer - in my previous AutoTrail I cut a hole in the panel next to the Sergeant control so it was easy to wire in. If that doesn't work for you, then look for a 100A version instead as they have separate current transformers which you can put inside the consumer unit and extended the wires to the meter.

Took a couple of weeks to come I think. It's got a couple of extra features so it's worth the wait. It's got an over current alarm and the electric meter in KWH built in. It also remembers the total when the power has been off. It's reset with a long press of the spanner button.
