Which wheelclamp?

Hi all,

Next month I collect my new Bessacarr E425. I will be storing it in my neighbours drive and although it has an imobiliser I intend to fit a wheelclamp for extra security and as a visual deterrent. I,ve narrowed it down to the following 3 Bulldog clamps:

Euroclamp 4x4ss (£60)

DC400 Autoclamp (£95)

Centaur CA2000C (£155)

I'm tempted to go for the heavy duty Centaur CA2000C but does it provide any more security than the other two clamps?

I would be intrested to hear anyones comments on the the above clamps or reccommedations for other wheelclamps.

Hi,

Before you choose, have a look at the Milenco (link attached), retails for around £90.

I've used one for a number of years and it does "exactly what it says etc, etc".

PS.

Congratulations, looks like you have brilliant neighbours.....

Hi all, All the clamps stated above are DIY type, and not very good. The bulldogs I have seen cut off with axe saws in no time. Get yourself a London clamp used by the clampers themselfs. They are big, strong and very well but together, I got mine of e-bay for around £100, some two years back.

Hi,

We've just bought the London Police Clamp from the link below.

http://www.saundersonsecurity.co.uk/acatalog/London_Police_Clamp.html

It was £129 but compared to the cost of what it is guarding it's a good investment.

The clamp was nice and clean and shiny but had no instructions.  It didn't take long to figure it out though.

Good that you're getting a visual deterrent.

michele - 2007-03-20 4:22 PM Please please forgive My ignorance ...but does a pyke not just jack it up and tow it . Or do you put these clamps on all four corners? I did say sorry .please explain

No you only use one Michele.

The wheel clamp is firmly attached to one of the wheels so lifting it up does not really help as it is still attached.  Some clamps are better than others and some of the cheaper ones are fairly easy to break.

There is still nothing really stopping someone jacking it up and towing it away but you're now talking about someone turning up with a tow truck as opposed to a casual thief.

You'd want a shotgun or a few mates with baseball bats to stop a hardened criminal taking your possessions.
