Brexit and Covid perfect storm

Did anyone see the curve predictions chart yesterday? It depicted the possible scenarios for the covid spike over the winter. Obviously the lockdown is to try and prevent that but without a proper lockdown which includes all of education it probably wont work.

I seem to remember some months ago when it all kicked off, several of us said we should extend the transition period because if the pandemic followed the pattern of the 1918 pandemic we would be leaving and quite possibly crashing out of the EU right in the middle of the most severe pandemic curve in living memory.

If this lockdown fails we will be in uncharted territory in terms of infections and deaths and likely the NHS will be overwhelmed. Who now thinks leaving the transition period on Jan 1 with or without a deal makes any sense whatsoever?

My 4year old granddaughter would be devestated if her school closed. It would not be good for the mental health of children.

I wonder how many children or teachers are actually in hospital with covid.

Th lockdown will not stop the virus it will just kick it down tje road. It will lesson the pressure on the NHS but no more than that.

We will have to learn to live with it.

I certainly agree the transition period should be extended to allow this so called deal to materialise.

Its possible it might be (kind of). If Biden wins, Johnson is totally out in the cold with no allies. That will probably put an end to his mental no deal exit. There probably isnt time to ratify a deal but they will scrabble to try and establish something. There is a clause in the WTO rules I believe (only saw this the other day) which will allow members in the middle of trade deal negotiations to trade tariff free but Im not sure what the situation will be as regards customs and checks.

Sorry about your grandchild but I have a feeling schools will be next and IMO its the only way of battering the rate back down if we are to stand a chance of avoiding any of those curves on the chart. Sadly once again it will be too little too late.
