Taxpayer paid upfront for non existent masks

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2020/nov/03/45m-deal-for-nhs-masks-collapses-amid-claims

"References to 3M as part of the underlying transaction in the matter you described are entirely fraudulent,” said Jennifer Ehrlich, a spokesperson for the company. “None of the distributors and principals you mentioned have a relationship with 3M or are authorised distributors of 3M products.”

Ehrlich said more than 7,700 cases of fraud involving fake 3M PPE had been reported to the company during the pandemic. She said 3M had advised the British government in June that this particular order was unlikely to be legitimate.

Yet this inept bunch of loons still went blundering on....*-) ....and WTF is bats enough to deal with a company calling itself "Win Billion"? Sounds more like a dodgy gambling casino than PPE supplier. It's about time these toe-rags got held to account.

Obviously our resident haters missed this bit ;-) ..........

"Sharpe said Purple Surgical still intended to fulfil the DHSC’s order, but would repay the full value of the contract if unable to do so.

“We are deeply distressed by the suspected fraud that has been committed against Purple Surgical and, by extension, the NHS,” he said. He added that the company had fulfilled 95% of its UK government contracts despite the unprecedented pressures of the pandemic."

So just 5% of their contract has yet to be fulfilled, and they will repay the dosh if it isn't >:-) ........

The Sh1tstirring Daily Bumwipe should be ashamed of themselves *-) .........

Have you seen how much prices have fallen in the shops.

IF they ever fulfil this order the masks will be worth far less, and probably outdated. BoJo left the sourcing of PPE so late he bought them when prices were highest and we needed them most urgently.

What I find most concerning is there is over £3 BILLION of our money unaccounted for.

And, in the name of sanity, why did we pay upfront?

Nobody does that

Let alone a Government that is supposed to be the most creditworthy buyer of all.

Buying from a new supplier that could go bust before they have delivered.

If you are buying on behalf of the Government you should be able to get the best deal of all, because the supplier can be sure he is going to get paid - (and can use the proof he supplies the Government as a testimonial to other buyers)

I thought you were supposed to be a businessman *-)

As you have clearly never heard of supply .......

They haven't supplied, thats the point

And if they intended to supply why would they insist on being paid up front?

That only happens when the buyer is not creditworthy
