dawki Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 Hi all Has anyone heard anything about the National trust trialling Motorhomes staying overnight in their car parks?
Gman Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 Campaign for Real Aires UK .on facebook, Quite a good read. CAMpRA google campra.org.uk Steve.
colin Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 This is the statement they put out, not heard anything since. We have been looking into the increasing use of our car parks by overnight campervans. There are a number of factors to consider and, where appropriate, we have been looking into a trial scheme that would operate in a similar way to the Aire system that you mention. To inform our thinking we have also been monitoring the Forestry and Land Scotland 'Stay the Night' trial and also the 'Stay in a Pub Car Park' scheme. Any changes in our car park overnighting policy would follow the successful outcome of a test and trial period and would also require changes to our byelaws and other local legislation.
dawki Posted November 14, 2020 Author Posted November 14, 2020 ???? "We already welcome campervans and motorhomes at some of the places in our care. However, it’s clear from the incredible response in recent weeks that we need to do more to support overnight stays in our car parks at National Trust places, where we can.????????? ????????? Therefore, we’re working up a plan to allow campervan and motorhome users to stay overnight at more of our places. We’ve been trialling this in the Lake District this year and we’re now considering how we roll this out across selected locations next year" From the National trust
Steve H Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 This would be most welcomed. Just get ahead of the game though and make sure your motorhome was built without slave labour otherwise the NT will shame you.
Bulletguy Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 Found the below link which is NT though not car parks. However, if you manage to get an overnight stay on an NT car park don't expect Aires/Stellplatz style many of which are free and often with services. As admirable as the NT's 'interest' in campervan overnight parking is, they'll charge and it won't be a pound a night! https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/holiday-lists/caravans-campervans-and-motorhomes Possibly the "increasing use of our car parks by overnight campervans" may well be from our European friends touring Britain for the first time so not used to being prohibited from sleeping in their van on a car park. They will get used to seeing signs telling them this; https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/features/overnight-camping-and-parking
