John52 Posted November 15, 2020 Posted November 15, 2020 Just been watching 'Britain's Most Historic Towns' https://www.radiotimes.com/tv-programme/e/mtkpgg/britains-most-historic-towns--s3-e2-restoration-london/ It features Britain's most notorious turncoat He supported the monarchy Then when the tide turned he supported Oliver Cromwell Then when the tide turned he supported the restoration of the monarchy, promising clemency to those who had supported Oliver Cromwell. Then he reneged on that and informed on his previous friends so they were hunted down and executed. As a reward the king gave him a street in London You will recognise the name George Downing :-S Similarities with today just go on and on Then as now, it was the poor who suffered most from the plague because they couldn't self isolate The mayor of London, who woke up to see the beginnings of the fire of London, said 'a woman could piss it out' and went back to bed *-)
Barryd999 Posted November 15, 2020 Posted November 15, 2020 Must admit, I saw the thread title and wondered if it was going to feature Pelmet Towers or some street in Uddersfield covered in Trump and Nigel Farage posters. (lol)
