We have had that awful thing happen to us in our family ... Looking for pity because of it never ... I liked her and her husband at one time but now it seems they constantly need to be victims of something, racism, mental health issues, bad press blah blah blah ... Hopefully the $100 million Netflix deal eases their pains

Most families including my own have too. It's sadly all too common.I also think her friends who shout about some racist motives behind her difficulties in being accepted by the Brits are sorely misguided. It is an insult to the great majority of Brits who do not judge people by the colour of their skin. To quote the late great David Bowie "This is not America".

No written Constitution because we aren't supposed to ask where the power is.

Just look at the shiny things instead.

Bread and circuses etc

My understanding is this.

Royals want publicity, but on their terms.

Photos of them supporting charity are fine, take as many as you like, spread them far and wide.

But anything that shows what they are really like is an invasion of privacy,

Hence their staff are bound and gagged by the Official Secrets Act,

so even the courts can't find out what Prince Andrew was doing at the paedophile parties.

Or how he treats servants.

We pay his minders to mind him.

But they are working for him, not us, and can't tell us anything. >:-)

Like the ww2 bomb hitting a garden wall at Buckingham Palace

Plenty of publicity so the King could pretend he knew what it was like to have his home bombed

(apparently he didn't answer when someone asked him which home *-) )

The Royals have to manage their engagement with the press almost like ordinary celebs these days and they are helped by having the trappings of their status, including security staff who are armed police officers. It’s still not a life I would choose because they are under the spotlight, including invasive paperazzi, Almost all the time. It’s an increasingly precarious existence for “The Firm” but they are valuable to us, so I hope they survive.

But I don’t count Meghan Markle as a Royal any longer and nor her husband, who chose to step away from the role and may even have been a cuckoo in the nest anyway. It’s clear which one wears the trousers and that they still want to be celebs. Let’s hope they achieve that without queering the pitch for the real Royals.

Another good reason for an elected Head of State.

Not only so we can choose who we want

But they can choose whether to stand for election

Yeah think of all the Tourists they bring in *-)

(unlike France who has far more Tourists because the palaces are properly open to the public)

Funny enough I don't recall anyone saying the announcement by Zara of a miscarriage as being a 'publicity stunt'.

Anything she writes can be deemed a 'publicity stunt', or maybe she's right, people shouldn't just hide away and brush it under the carpet, I haven't read what she wrote, but was actually shocked by how many miscarriages there are, maybe some people might be more prepared if they understood from the start how common it is and it might help them deal with it.
