Labours Dilemma

Obviously the EU is not going to give is a better deal as a non member than we had as a member.

They might as well shut down now because everyone else wouild leave.

So it will either be a bum deal or no deal

I can see BoJo preferring no deal - because if he agrees to a bum deal he will own it, wheras a no-deal can be blamed on someone else. Worse for the country but better for him. As the Irish PM said 'Boris Johnson would set the country on fire if his hands were cold."

But which one should Labour back?

Just leaving the eu is a better deal.

with a bum deal or with no deal?

And better deal for who?

My thoughts is the bum deal would be better than no deal for the country

But worse for the politicians who vote for it because they would own it :-S

I’m not sure what your idea of a bum deal is.

Its all just a trade deal. Most countries have them. The eu don’t want a competitive large economy on their door step. If we were the size of Greece ..they would’t give a toss.

.

a worse deal than we now have as a member

making us less competative than we were before the referendum and before our industries started relocating abroad to be on the right side of potential EU trade barriers, so they can plan and invest for the long term.

Doesn't affect me much personally as I long since gave up on UK shareholdings and moved my shareholdings to foreign companies.

But even a bum deal would be a welcome reprieve for long suffering shareholders in British Industry.

Supporting BoJo's bum deal would be better than no deal for the country.

But disastrous for Labour because BoJo could say they voted for it.

And Nicola Sturgeon could say Labour is as bad as the Tories.

The fact that Kier Starmer still wants to do it shows he is putting the country first

Labour should probably abstain but it doesnt really matter. Its not their Brexit. Its the sole property of the ToryKipper party now. Labour can say they tried to go for a softer Brexit possibly with a confirmatory referendum but the people spoke at the 2019 election so its fcuk all to do with them now.

Whichever way it goes now wont make that much difference. It will be a disaster for the UK either way but Johnson already owns it. Personally I would prefer no deal but it is true that he will try and blame the EU or the French if he fails to get a deal. There are millions of remainers of course just waiting to put people right and remind them of how we got to where we are. Johnson is going to have to pull some fancy rabbits out of the hat to get out of this one and remain PM in the New Year thats for sure.
