StuartO Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 I used to enjoy watching Kay Burley but in recent years she's seemed so waspish and unnecessarily challenging to her interviewees that I simply couldn't cope with watching her and Sky News became an Avoidance Area between 0700 and 1000 on weekdays. And Beth Rigby was getting on my nerves too, although only relatively intermittently, when she seemed to be more interested in scoring a hit on someone rather than illuminating the subject matter. But Kay Burley's 60th Birthday was marked by a gathering of ten Sky News female staff in a restaurant where they shared two tables (between multiple households) and then went on to another restaurant (but according to KB purely to have a pee while waiting for a taxi home) and finally four of them went back to Chez Burley for more indoor mingling. Clearly Covid Rules were broken in quite a big way and certainly more mingling went on that anything Dominic Cummins was ever accused of. And both KB and BR have had quite a reputation for tough interogation of anyone who is suspected of Covid Rule Breaking. Sky News have avoided any news coverage of the episode but they did promptly reorganise the hosting of the 0700 to 1000 "Kay Burley Show" which kept it's name but KB herself was substituted. I haven't seen anything of BR on air this week either, so perhaps her too. It's been suggested (including on air by Adam Boulton) that Sky New's standard of Journalism has taken a very big hit as a result of this episode so even if KB and BR reappear on air, they will at the very least be snookered for challenging anyone else about breaking Covid Rules in future; anyone targeted by them would simply have to respond by suggesting that they were being hypocritical. There never is any news coverage of scandalous behaviour by journalists and I've always assumed that happens by virtue of a code of honour among thieves rather than because journalists all behave like angels. But this exposure of pretty blatant Covid Rule breaking by the arch accusers should spell end of career for both KB and BR shouldn't it?

In this case it has been covered. https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/General-Chat/Chatterbox/She-Could-Be-In-The-Hypocrite-Squad-On-Ere-/57004/
StuartO Posted December 10, 2020 Author Posted December 10, 2020 It’s been announced that Sky will be keeping Kay Burley off air for six months and Beth Rigby for three months. Not clear whether they keep getting paid but at least I can enjoy watching Sky News for a while.

They wear their hypocrisy blinkers 24/7 :D ..........
Barryd999 Posted December 11, 2020 Posted December 11, 2020 If she broke the rules then its up to Sky what they do with an employee off duty but its nothing compared to what Cummings did. That was in the middle of Lockdown 1 when the rules were much stricter and clearer and Cummings was our Prime Ministers right hand man. Burley has at least admitted it. Cummings and Johnson firstly tried to lie and cover it up and then when they couldnt get away with that they just invented more lies about eye tests and other such bollox. Cummings wife even tried to lie about their whereabouts and the icing in the cake was our Prime Minister supported and backed up the lies and the rule breaking. No comparison whatsoever. nothing to see here.
StuartO Posted December 11, 2020 Author Posted December 11, 2020 Barryd999 - 2020-12-11 9:51 AM ...... its nothing compared to what Cummings did. An indoor gathering for a meal by a group of work colleagues from presumably ten different households, mingling over a meal (i..e. without distancing or masks and hugging farewells) sounds to me like quite a superspreader event. Cummings moved his family in one car to a location where he could both isolate and get help if needed - not much spreading opportunity there eh? And then he took another car journey after his recovery, again just him and his household, again not much mingling there either?
