New sea sloop 5 owner

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just purchased a 2004 sea sloop 5 and have been trawling the internet for info and it is incredibly difficult to find anything. The manual is in German so every page requires google translate. The van is in need of a little tlc and tidying so could do with some pointers as to possible suppliers. I have scoured Marquis auto sleepers and trigano the current owners of sea without any joy. So my question is, am I alone in this or are you out there with bundles of advice as I legit to know the van. Initial issues: looking for a good reversing camera, the leisure battery is not charging from the engine and I cannot see a split charge relay as yet, is there one or do I need to sort that. Loads more but enough already. Basically if you own or have owned a sea sloop, be great to make contact.

Ciao

Andy

The SEA Sloop 5 had a brief review in MMM in June 2005. Whilst it might prove of a little passing interest, it isn't hugely revealing as to any technicalities.

Yes, there should be a split-charge function. I can't see from the review who supplied the electrics on this conversion, but it may be in any control box, or alternatively, and more likely, somewhere under the bonnet (and the function should also control the 12v running of the 'fridge whilst driving).

Recommended suppliers for spares/replacement, etc. will vary by whatever it is you wish to obtain. If you post the detail of that as you go along, you'll find people happy to recommend.

If you're happy to fit your own kit, I can recommend https://www.reversingcamerasuk.com/

As for the manuals all being in German, any SEA documentation will be difficult to get hold of, but the documentation for the inbuilt kit (space/water heater, fridge, etc.) can mostly be downloaded in English. A post with the model number(s) should result in someone giving you a link. (I believe the heater will be a Truma Cxxx combined space and water heater, but may be gas only?).

As for the Fiat base unit, I've got a 2004/5 PDF owners manual I could get to you if you don't have an English version.

Sent by eMail. As per PM, if it proves too big, I'll stage it on a download site somewhere.

As I've said, from the review the heating/water heater is likely to be a Truma "C series", but which version isn't clear.

If you can determine the version from the maker's plate, multilingual instructions are available here:

There are (brief) owner comments on the Sea Sloop 5 model in this 2010 MHFacts discussion

https://forums.motorhomefacts.com/21-newcomers/73338-devon-monaco-vs-sea-sloop-5-vs-wildax-aurora-vs-twin-etc.html

On-line photos of Sea Sloop 5 models indicate that it was fitted with a gas-only Trumatic C combination air/water heater (there’a a photo of the control-panel in this old advert) and probably a C-4002

http://www.southdownsmotorcaravans.co.uk/stock/1819/used-sea-sloop-5-motorhome-u1819_017.html

Also in that advert is a photo showing the motorhome’s main electrical control-panel located above a wardrobe. The panel is clearly a Schaudt “ELECTROBLOCK” product and another on-line photo (image attached below) shows a “EBL 263-5” reference-number.

In this 2013 O&AL forum discussion

https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Hints-and-Tips/2006-Adria-twin/33154/

I said that I had been able to download from the Schaudt website English-language instructions for an EBL 263-5 unit. That still seems to be possible

A search for a given EBL number will often turn up a download link somewhere........however, documentation for almost all Schaudt equipment can be downloaded from the manufacturer's site, if you know how to search (there are some quirks on certain browsers) and request a download link by email.

(Yes, I just found that better picture too ;-) )

...and I've downloaded the English instructions from Schaudt. If the OP wants them, I can eMail (the download links are one-time, and that's easier than describing how to do it).

Given that it is likely to be an EBL, and with that particular one, the split-charge function is provided within the EBL itself.

The 12V fridge supply is also provided from the EBL, via a separate relay.

I'm assuming that, though you say the leisure battery isn't charging (from the engine), it is supplying 12V when stationary and off hook-up? If not, then the main 30A leisure battery fuse is the first thing to check.

If we disregard the above, then the first check would be to see if the fridge has 12V with the engine running - if it has, the likely fault is either wiring or the split-charge relay within the EBL.

If it hasn't, then the D+ signal from the alternator to the EBL would be the first thing to check (wiring or the in-line fuse).

I've taken the liberty of emailing you the EBL instructions (which contain a block diagram).

This is a real shot in the dark, but it’s evident that “Sloop” models could carry SEA or ADRIA badging.

The following link is to a Scottish hire company with an ‘Adria Sea Sloop”

If Andy does not have an English-language Owner Handbook for his Sloop 5, the Scottish hirer might be able to help. If a motorhome is to be hired out in the UK, it’s reasonable to expect the hirer to provide a handbook in English.

JSL

Welcome to the Out&AboutLive forums.

At the end of last year another forum member (user-name "Atlowers") acquired a 2004 LHD SEA Sloop 5

https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/New-sea-sloop-5-owner/57108/

and will quite likely be able to advise on the leisure-battery location.

Forum discussions in which Atlowers has participated are listed here

https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/search/query.asp?action=search&searchforumid=all&keywords=&author=Atlowers&days=&Submit=Search

some of which will be Sloop-related.

The Sloop 5 is pretty compact, so there can't be too many places where a leisure-battery can be hidden. Have you looked under the cab seats? If not there, the battery will probably be in a seat locker or wardrobe base - possibly under a removable cover.

Presumably you are certain that there is a leisure-battery in your motorhome? A Sloop 5 definitely SHOULD have one, but who knows with a secondhand motorhome...

(I’ve copied above my reply to your earlier same ’stand-alone’ posting " SEA SLOOP 5 location of the leisure battery anyone” and - to avoid potential repetition - deleted your earlier enquiry.)

Andy Lowman’s forum Profile indicates that he last logged on to the Out&AboutLive forums on 11 May 2021 (7 days ago).

Andy’s email address is the gmail type, so may be a ’sacrificial’ address that he no longer uses or only checks irregularly. (I’ve got several such addresses that I ignore for months, only using them when I feel the need.)

This advert is for a SEA Sloop 5 for hire.

You could try phoning them for advice.

Has your Sloop got carpets? If so, check underneath ALL the carpets just in case there are compartments in the floor where a leisure-battery might be housed. (I’ve attached a Sloop photo and it looks like there might be hatches in the floor.)

Just to further complicate matters, apparently there were two variants of the SEA Sloop...

One had a ceiling-mounted bed and a rear kitchen (photos of RHD vehicle in this advert)

http://www.southdownsmotorcaravans.co.uk/stock/1819/pixindex.html

while the other had a rear lounge and central kitchen (advert and video showing LHD vehicles here)

http://commercialcoolingairconditioning.com/2020/09/adria-sea-sloop-2005-lhd-full-service-history/

Where the rear-kitchen version is concerned, there seems to be a large ‘hatch’ in the floor in front of the fridge.

Except I suggested the battery might be under a cab seat in my original reply to JSL's question and (hopefully) he will have checked this by now and confirmed the battery is not there.

I've owned 3 motorhomes. The first had its leisure battery in the engine compartment; the second had the battery under the cab passenger seat; the third has the battery in the rear garage.

JSL has provided no 'back story' regarding the acquisition of this motorhome, but - as I said earlier - a SEA Sloop 5 is small and there are not too many places where a leisure battery could be hidden.

Assuming that JSL has the pull-down roof-bed version, it would be worth knowing what's under the hatch in front of the fridge where the raised rear floor might allow sufficient depth for a battery to be installed there.

There's also the possibility (which I also mentioned earlier) that JSL has obtained this motorhome with the leisure battery missing.

If you want information on the Schaudt Electroblok including English versions of the manuals there is a fantastic guy at Schaudt that was extremely helpful to me a couple of weeks ago when mine had a heart attack.

Udo.Lang@schaudt.gmbh is his email address.

I was super impressed with his customer service. He advised they do offer a repair service if you need it.

Cheers,

It may be worth mentioning that JSL is (I believe) in France in the Limoges area, and this might explain why the SEA Sloop 5 being asked about is left-hand-drive.

I’m perplexed how difficult it seems to be for JSL to resolve this issue. All I can assume is that the motorhome is unavailable for examination, as there is only a very limited number of places a leisure-battery can be housed in a Sloop 5 and a check of those places should only take a few minutes.

Welcome to the Out&AboutLive forums, Colin and thatnks for the advice.

There was a May 2021 follow-up to this ‘Where is the leisure-battery?’ discussion, but it was in this separate enquiry by Andy Lowman (Altlowers) about an awning.

https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Drive-away-awning-advice-/58201/

As you and Andy both mention the leisure-battery compartment being under carpet, it’s likely that JSL’s SEA Sloop also had carpeting hiding the hatches in the kitchen area’s floor. JSL (based in France) last logged on to these forums in late-June, but it’s reasonable to assume he had managed to find the elusive battery by then.
