1% for the NHS

Thats the Tories for you I guess.

They remind me of the Scorpion and the Frog tale.

A scorpion wants to cross a river but cannot swim, so it asks a frog to carry it across. The frog hesitates, afraid that the scorpion might sting, but the scorpion argues that if it did that, they would both drown. The frog considers this argument sensible and agrees to transport the scorpion. The frog lets the scorpion climb on its back and then begins to swim. Midway across the river, the scorpion stings the frog anyway, dooming them both. The dying frog asks the scorpion why it stung despite knowing the consequence, to which the scorpion replies: "I couldn't help it. It's in my nature."

Billions spaffed to their cronies on everything from none existent or poor quality PPE, failed Track and trace and useless apps. Their own leader and moron in chief Johnson nearly dies of Covid and is saved by the NHS (and ironically two immigrant nurses). They and their supporters had the audacity to take to the streets to clap for them which almost physically made me sick and this is how they repay them.

Disgusting does not come close.

You could argue that all front line workers such as Policemen and teachers should also be well looked after and you would be right but nobody has worked harder or paid the price more than our NHS. How people still support them is beyond me. What is wrong with them?

No it certainly doesn't. Meantime Johnson and his scumbags continue dishing out millions to their chums like confetti. £30 million to a publican pal of Hancock. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/matt-hancocks-neighbour-won-30m-deal-to-supply-vials-for-covid-tests-gnsbg8vgx

Wasn’t that last year?

The economy has had the triple whammy of that, covid, and Brexit.

So we have far less money than before.

The Government has no money, just a scary mountain of debt. So can only improve the situation of one group by further worsening the situation of another

There's somebody on here who does (lol)

People are making comparisons like Dominic Cummings 50% pay rise.

The money paid out to enable Priti Patel to keep being a sh!t to her staff would pay 13 nurses salaries etc (a lot more nurses salaries if you include the legal costs)

But I think they might be missing the point.

You can only spend money once.

The fact that BoJo has spaffed so much away does not mean we can afford to pay the nurses.

It means just the opposite. :-(

The poll was completed before the announcement, so in no way endorses the 1% raise.

Is it the Daily Mail that has made you think Dominic Cummings 50% pay rise was not paid by the public?

Does Cummings still work for the taxpayer? ;-) .........

The proposed 1% raise was only announced after the poll , AFAIK it was never mentioned prior to that and is not part of the budget.

As has now been explained to you that poll was before this announcement. Last year it seems the vast majority of the public were in favour of a substantial and early pay rise for the NHS. I doubt very much that opinion would have changed. If anything i suspect it will have grown stronger.

https://www.unison.org.uk/news/2020/07/public-want-nhs-staff-get-early-significant-pay-rise/

Why dont you tell the nurse who gives you your jab that you think she is only worth an extra three quid a week and see where she sticks it.

Sunak rewards NHS heroes by helping their landlords buy another property

The nurses and paramedics that have just spent a gruelling year in the frontline of the war against COVID have finally seen their sacrifices rewarded by a 1% pay rise and the warm knowledge that the person who takes half their salary in rent is going to get richer.

At Loughborough Royal Infirmary, Critical Care nurse Simone Williams was one of many to praise the generosity of the Exchequer towards the nice man that lets her rent one cramped bedroom in a house he inherited 15 years ago.

“It’s high time the government rewarded the real heroes of this pandemic, the baby boomers who’ve built a property portfolio.

“After twelve brutal months of seemingly unending work, lack of equipment, death as a daily companion and anti-mask idiots shouting at us, what I really want is an extra £4 a week and to listen to a patronising retiree tell me about how he’s eyeing some fixer-uppers in Stoke.”

Nurse Williams said she understood the vital need to help buy-to-let landlords by freezing stamp duty and said it was clearly a higher priority than nursing bursaries, subsidised housing for key workers, or having enough equipment to ready the NHS for the next pandemic.

She went on, “I just hope that one day I can meet our benefactor in person so I can tell him how grateful I am that my landlord can finally make enough to move to Florida.

“In fact, everyone at the hospital would love to meet the chancellor. Not to spoil the surprise, but someone might have won himself VIP colonoscopy with a special rig we made just for him.”

"'Dear Matt Wanksock. It would seem that Itchy Ballsack says there is 'no money' to give nurses and other NHS staff a proper pay rise.

I see that of the £100 Billion of public money used to pay for PPE contracts, around £17.3 Billion has been awarded without any public consultation. You know, to your mates who run pubs and jewellery firms. Who in many cases haven't delivered. You remember, you were found to have acted unlawfully (and paid several million more in public money to attempt to defend your position in court).

That money could have given every nurse in the UK a £28,000 bonus.

Still, at least you know where your priorities lie...'"

She is right of course.

Scotland has given the 1% backdated as a preliminary, and Wales a £500 bonus.

But Brexiteers need to wake up to the fact they have been lied to, and England doesn't have the money to pay everyone what they have earned.

English public finances are the worst they have ever been.

Their hero BoJo has spaffed it all away.

And you can't spend it twice.

I think because its what they want to believe?

Tories have always been about divide and rule because they represent a minority, and Dominic Cummings took it up a notch - provoke and divide. To set one working class group against another.

Blame the immigrants for the housing shortage .. Brexiteers v Remainers .. Blame someone else for the Governments catastrophic mishandling of covid - Lockdown fanatics v Lockdown avoiders with people ringing the police to snitch on their neighbour for going out to exercise twice in one day etc
