Unlucky or fussy

Bought a 2nd hand van (2013 Timberland Destiny) last December and although very pleased with new van as it is a step up from our old van there are a number of issues that have arisen most of which I think should have been dealt with by the dealer before they handed over the van. Obviously times have been tricky due to COVID and we bought the van in December so the combination of COVID and weather made it difficult to check everything worked when we took delivery of the van and we have only just made our first trip away.

As mentioned in previous posts the tyres were over 10 years old but credit to the dealer new tyres were reimbursed. But the following faults have also been revealed as we have started to use the van 1) relay for tow bar electrics was faulty, fixed locally and dealer reimbursed, 2) spring broken on fridge lock so 1st time we used van with things in fridge door flew open, 3) knob for one of the gas rings spring broken so just goes around without opening/closing gas, 4) fridge not running on 12v.

Am I being fussy or is it not unreasonable to expect a dealer to have checked everything before selling a motor home?

If nothing else it shows that you have to check everything single thing down to the last switch, spring or gadget before parting with your money

Unfortunately there are the same problems with brand new vans. The system appears to be the supplier puts the van together without any quality control, then the dealer sticks it on the forecourt ready to sell, then the buyer comes along and through Rose coloured glasses buys the van. The buyer collects the van, after it's been prepared by the dealer, and takes it away for a holiday only for the problems to start. Some of the problems are minor and easily fixed are major and means returning the van to the dealer for days, even weeks. So should be too disappointed with your van and it's problems after all sounds like your dealer is being helpful. Good luck and enjoy.
