Brazil launches inquiry

Bulletguy

Recommended Posts

Brazil's Congress has launched an inquiry into the government's handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

The country has recorded more than 14 million cases and 391,000 deaths since the pandemic began.

Brazil's hospitals are overcrowded and the health system is on the brink of collapse.

The inquiry could potentially lead to the impeachment of President Jair Bolsonaro who has frequently spoken out against lockdowns, masks and vaccinations.

The commission will investigate a number of the government's actions, including:

1) slow vaccine procurement

2) minimising the severity of the pandemic

3) the lack of medical equipment

4) promoting scientifically unproven drugs such as hydroxychloroquine

5) whether the president allowed the virus to spread to try to achieve herd immunity

6) if "genocide" was committed against indigenous communities in the Amazon, which were ravaged by a deadly variant that was left uncontrolled

Just look at all the right wing populist leaders and how they have handled Covid. There is a pattern. much of what is posted above Johnson and his team are guilty of. Same with Trump and I believe India has a right wing populist leader.

There is definitely a pattern in how populist leaders across the world have handled the pandemic such as their optimistic bias and complacency, ambiguity and ignorance of science.

Modi is Indias Trump. Bolsonaro will no doubt rig the inquiry and pay bungs out. Johnson will do the same if we ever get to hold an inquiry over his handling of the pandemic. He's already seeing to it his chums get their pockets filled and as far as an inquiry goes it won't be independent......Johnson will want control over it.

What planet are you on Barry??? 8-) ............

So you think we are in the same position as Brazil? *-) ........

Or even the EU (?) ........

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

Seems to me its only a matter of days before Italy overtakes our "total" deaths, they overtook our death "rate" weeks ago, plus France and Germany both have daily death that are in the hundreds compared to the UK's low double digit COVID deaths rates :-| .........

So shouldn't you wait until the Pandemic is over before you start the blame game? *-) ........

Barry often used to chunter on about the number of "Covid" deaths until I told him to watch the TV when they were announced daily. He finally found the words "Deaths from any reason within 28 days of a Covid test". I felt really bad about doing that because he thought he was on to a winner with his anti Boris rants.

Now that self administered tests are available for everyone to use at home on a weekly basis, does that mean everyone will now have Covid on their death certificate? *-)

Still showing that bunking off school hasn't benefited your understanding of statistics.

From your link, deaths in last seven days - France 2092, Germany 1569.

Take a guess what the UK's rate per week was in January? I'll give you a clue, on the 20th January there were 1820 deaths. Another clue the daily average was over 1000 deaths. So what was the highest weekly death toll in January?

When you have answered that, give some thought to whether a person you have previously described as a proven liar might have said he'd rather see covid bodies piled up in the street?

Clearly the plan now from the usual suspect Johnson disciple fruit loops is just to wash over a year of failure during which time on more than one occasion we had the worst death rate in the world just because thanks to our NHS, the army, some good luck with contracts and teams of volunteers we have got ahead on the vaccine roll out compared to many countries.

The past year which ever way you look at it now has been a complete disaster with 150000 people dead. Much of this could have been prevented. It makes no difference now if other countries overtake us, the damage is done and the lives are still lost. So much of that could have been prevented here had we had good leadership as we had the advantage of seeing it coming and we are an Island FFS! and yes, there clearly is a pattern with Right wing Fruit loop leaders badly handing covid, of that there is no doubt.

Nice to see a well balanced appraisal of the situation by Barry ..... who hardly ever visits chatterbox .... allegedly. 8-)

So what exactly that Barry said is incorrect? Provide a counter argument based on facts rather than trying to shoot the messenger.

Messenger?? Flames??? The question was "So what exactly that Barry said is incorrect?" You missed both the point and the messenger, by a country mile. So, again, what exactly that Barry said is incorrect? To make it easy here it is again:

"Clearly the plan now from the usual suspect Johnson disciple fruit loops is just to wash over a year of failure during which time on more than one occasion we had the worst death rate in the world just because thanks to our NHS, the army, some good luck with contracts and teams of volunteers we have got ahead on the vaccine roll out compared to many countries.

So much of that could have been prevented here had we had good leadership as we had the advantage of seeing it coming and we are an Island FFS! and yes, there clearly is a pattern with Right wing Fruit loop leaders badly handing covid, of that there is no doubt."

The NHS was perilously close to the point at which it couldn't cope with the influx of Covid patients. Patients were being farmed out to distant hospitals, the "Nightingale" hospitals couldn't be used because there were no staff to run them, and people who had non-covid illnesses were being denied treatment because the Covid patients were taking all available resources. All this, because the government wouldn't act until the pile of sick and dead grew to such size that their popularity was in danger. Thousands died because of the vanity underlying that pursuit of popularity.

Then, as soon as the restrictions began bearing fruit, they started taking them off. Then, just as predicted, the numbers of infections began rising again. As before, inaction and prevarication until the pile of the sick and dead began to threaten popularity and, as before, the late response flirted with catastrophe for the NHS, while more thousands died - only more so this time because the government didn't want to spoil Christmas and be even more unpopular. As before, the obvious eventually prevailed at the 11th hour and the 59th minute, and Christmas was more or less cancelled.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Is that what we should accept from the government of the United Kingdom? Should we not expect better? Do we not have a right to demand better? Is it more patriotic to shut up and settle for fifth-rate, or to demand that our governments perform in accordance with our international status? Just askin', of course!

Oh, and don't bleat "unprecedented"! We had the precedents, we watched while the pandemic spread from the far east to Europe, and could see who was dealing with it effectively and who wasn't, before the first case arose here. Given a properly competent pro-active government, with its mind fully on its job, the levels of infection and death, the knock on into the capacity of the NHS to treat non-Covid patients, and the impact on the economy, could have all been far, far lower than has been the case. This was, and is, a national disgrace.

He has added on around 25,000 dead to the total, which contains a percentage of those who died of something entirely different (I know of a number around here personally). That'll do for a start.

151,243 deaths at 4pm today. The total is updated each work day.

An excellent appraisal Brian. Unfortunately wasted on the thick and terminally stupid who still support Johnson and his regime. I blame Brexit. Its addled their brains into backing this Moron unconditionally. Its a feckin cult.

But that was before he became your Brexit poster boy which, in pursuit of, you appear to have lost all sense of moral direction.

Since then Boris has managed to jab over half the adult population of BREXIT Blighty

Fake news.

That is what Boris Johnson has convinced his adoring flock, but in fact it was the NHS who did all the jabs, using a vaccine obtained by Kate Bingham. :-|

Not forgetting, of course that the vaccine was formulated by Professor Sarah Gilbert at the Jenner Institute at Oxford, which pulled together the Astra Zenica development team, and fast tracked for use by the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency under Dr June Raine.

It was the extreme good fortune of the UK to have those three talented women (and many other contributors) in those positions at that moment in time. Remove any one of those three women from the equation, and history would be likely to have taken a very different path.

Attributing the credit for all that to just one person, whose actual role in the development, authorisation, and distribution of the vaccine was at best minimal, is to demy the depth and strength in biomedical sciences of the UK. It was a team effort, and we happen to have had a very strong team.

Just for Dave's benefit, I'd also point out that they are all very highly educated and qualified, so it follows, using his logic, that they are also extremely stupid! Yet, for some reason, I think I remember him saying he had allowed the product of their foolish brains to enter his veins. Maybe it will have imparted more than just anti-bodies? We can all live in hope! (lol) (lol) (lol) (lol) (lol) (lol) (lol) (lol)
