Hooky Hymer
Depending on what you are looking for, there is a super CL (Caravan Club Certified Location) just outside Uppingham. It is a 3ac parkland site, with just water and chemical disposal on offer, but we walked to the lake from there and there is a super inn just round the corner. Guest Sally Pepper
I can heartily recommend the Greetham site here: http://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/pitchfinder/display.asp?siteCounty=Rutland&filter=&Search=Search Very clean and friendly and there's a great pub in the village called The Plough which does superb food and is within a 10-minute walk of the site. Hymer C 9.
Depends what you want, but last summer stayed on a site at Edith Weston next to the sailing club, right on the side of the lake and next to the cycle path which is brilliant for cycling around (17 miles or 22) depending which option you take. the site is basic water, elsan, but at £4 a night with a honesty box who's complaining, there is a excellent pub a short walk away that do good meals reasonable, and a village stores in Edith Weston a really pretty village on the side of Rutland Water. Regards Carol.

Regards Carol. we stayed here for the night last weekend, on the way back from the Peterborough show. £5 a night, we phoned a couple of days before to secure a pitch, and the site was pretty full when we arrived, bloke said he would collect our money in the morning, but hadn't arrived when we set off, so used the honesty box. The pub in the village was great, excellent food, easy walk. The site was quite midgie though, so take some repelent. Good cafe at the normanton visitors center, less than a mile away, also did breakfasts. We had also earmarked a C&CC temporary holiday site just up the road by the visitors centre at Lyndon, which was open that weeekend, but not near a pub!, but looked Ok . Also a C&CC CS on the same B road looked OK as we passed on the way home. It was a lovely area and we enjoyed watching the Osprey fron Lynton visitors centre, would drfinately go back. Mel B
Have you got the contact details for this site? Also, how close is it to the lake in real terms for lugging a canoe to? :-S
bigmoney2
Mel B - 2007-05-04 7:48 PM Have you got the contact details for this site? Also, how close is it to the lake in real terms for lugging a canoe to? :-S it's very close to the sailing club, however it seems to be members only, signs saying no public access, so don't know if you could launch from there. if you are in a tent, it says you need to take a temporary membership of sailing club in order to camp at the site. Details below http://www.rutlandwatercampsite.co.uk/ There is another launch area on the oposite bank of the water at Whitwell creek. http://www.anglianwaterleisure.co.uk/index.php?sectionid=60&contentid=338&parentid=47 jules
