The Battle for Bamber Bridge

Do you know about the battle of Bamber Bridge on June 24th 1943, when racist US military police attacked black US troops from the Eighth Army Quartermaster Truck Company?

Did you know that when racist US military authorities demanded that the town’s pubs impose a colour bar, the local landlords responded with signs that read: “Black Troops Only”, which p*ssed the racists right off?

It's quite something that 1940s Britain was significantly less racist than the US, and that their segregationist Jim Crow laws just weren't welcome here.

A fascinating read
