New TomTom new mounting problem

Hi, we've just upgraded to a TomTom Essential in anticipation of new adventures.

The old device was usually mounted on the Ducato clipboard rather than the windscreen, for several reasons that have not changed.

I only got the new device about half an hour ago, but I can't find a third party mounting device that I'll be able to easily attach ( by bungee or crocodile clip) to the clipboard.

Has anyone solved this problem yet?

It won't be impossible, and I've already considered "adapting" a second mount ( the one that came with it will be used in the car) but maybe there's an alternative that one of you clever people has found.

The main issue is the fact that the new device now has a magnetic quick release mount that has the power cable attachment, although this could be dispensed with as the screen does have a power connection.

if you have a TomTom Essential or other current T/T this will make sense; otherwise not.

All the best,

and I'm looking forward to getting out there and cursing the idiosyncrasies of the satnav !

Alan, the attached image shows how I have mounted my Tom Tom. I purchased a thick piece of clear perspex and cut to fit the holder in the dash. Not sure if you have the same holder as there seems to be a couple of different layouts. I have been using it since October last year and it works effectively. It positions the Tom Tom screen into the cabin far enough to avoid most of the sun glare. Hope this helps. Cheers

I believe the 'clipboard’ of a Ducato 2008/2009 model will be as shown by the attached drawng.

I use two Garmin sat-navs on my 2015 Ducato. One is attached to a Garmin mount glued to the clipboard (same design as attached drawing) and I move that sat-nav to our car when necessary. The other sat-nav is an ancient device that I use as a digital speedometer and sits in a ‘beanbag’ on the dashboard’s upper surface.

Ha caught out - I have just noticed the image shown of the the reflection in the Tom Tom screen is of an unmade bed!! How embarrassing. I could say that was the co- drivers role, however in this enlightened world I must bear the responsibility!! Cheers,

Thank you folks, Derek is correct, that’s the clipboard, until now the location of our old TomTom.

I used a third party screen clip hat fitted nicely under the clamp of the clipboard.

That will no longer be possible unless I find an alternative.

The new device is much more complicated, and a second screen clamp that I could modify is thirty odd quid, I’m reluctant at this stage.

I suspect that the new device is magnetic and located so that the cable can only be located on an original screen mount. All those simple screen mounts on eBay are not putting any money in Mr TomTom’s pocket for all the second even third vehicles that the satnav is moved between.

Cynical? Guilty as charged??

After looking at Geeco's mount I realised that I have that type of mount on my new Nuevo, I tried to lift them up but found that they are stuck fast.

There is a white arrow on the mount saying locked and unlocked, however, I can't see any kind of button/switch/catch to move, anyone any idea how it works please.

The attached drawing might help.

There’s more about the tablet holder Iincluding a very short video-clip) here.

The arrow you mentioned earlier is shown on the photo on this MHFun thread

and the (closed) ‘lever’ is visible beneath the arrow.

Thanks Derek.

That was a short clip. lol had to watch it three times.

I could see the lever but couldn't fathom how to get to it, the last van I had you couldn't raise the clip board and didn't want to risk breaking it.

Will give it a go next time I venture into the van.

Many thanks.

Pete
