Truma parts

Good morning folks

Back in UK now enjoying the lovely (not) weather in the South East!

Has anyone got advice of the best (cheapest) place to source Truma boiler parts? I've been looking at replacing my old boiler as the water/heating won't be sufficient for the winter but the cost is beyond my budget. For a start apparently it needs an upgrade or new fan (underneath apparently). They are difficult to find for 1998 Hymer as they are obsolete, so I'm told?!

Does anywhere actually scrap Hymers or do the just go on forever?

TIA

If you are looking for replacement elements, I recently sourced 2 from ThermoTechnica in Newton Abbot. These are no longer available from Truma but having had them fitted they appear to be as good as the originals.

If you are close to The Midlands or don’t mind travelling, I can recommend Ian from MotorhomeTech who is experienced with Truma boilers and diagnosed/advised me on my boiler problems over the phone prior to me buying the new parts.

I thought £160 for 2 replacement elements was expensive but evidently the cost is quite reasonable especially if you compare it to replacing your boiler!!

Thanks for the advice about replacement elements and for providing the helpful links.

It’s perhaps worth mentioning that (assuming loirelover’s Truma heater is the original 1998 unit and a Trumatic C3402 or C6002) the appliance won’t have ‘elements’. The only Truma combination air/water heaters that could have 230V elements are the Trumatic C6002EH model (first marketed in 2003) and the “Combi (E)” heaters that succeeded the Trumatic products.

Trumatic C3402 and C6002 appliances could be fitted with a 230V 450W ‘heating collar’ (image attached below) that encircled the outside of the water-boiler’s tank - but this did not provide air heating. The heating collar was discussed in this MHFacts thread

and this 2018 link may be useful if a C3402 (or C6002) is to be dismantled.

Being a ‘98 model I suspect it will be a C 3400 or if a larger Hymer a C6000 which were replace by the version Derek mentioned. These are now obsolete. I would sooner put in some ting like a diesel Webasto heater and a cheaper water heater. Would be an interesting job and not that difficult with a bit of help.

In this 2012 forum thread

https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/trumatic-C3400/26337/

I mentioned that production of Trumatic C3400 and C6000 heaters ceased in mid-1997, so a 1998 Hymer might have one of those appliances or a C3402 or C6002 that followed on.

As you rightly say, the C3400 and C6000 are REALLY obsolete - and getting new spare parts for them is probably out of the question nowadays. Even some new spares for a C3402 or C6002 may be difficult/impossible to source.

It is fairly easy to decide whether a heater is a C3400/C6000 or the later C3402/C6002 as the top of the heater (its ‘lid') is visibly different. The upper image attached below shows a C3400 and the lower image is of a C3402.
