There are several aftermarket rev counters that are available, some of these have bit switches to set the divide by ratio to suit whatever you use for the engine speed signal. The easiest on a diesel is a signal from the Alternator windings. Automotive outlets like Halfords sell them and at this moment there are 22 rev counters for sale on ebay!
