This is certainly a lively forum. I suppose you are all out walking.

However, I / We are off in two weeks to park up in North Yorkshire (Nr. Richmond) to carry on where we left the C2C walk last year - Keld - Just having a week away, hope to get around 50 miles in. I know, it's not that much in a week, but we enjoy the views and the brews.

Goint to cheat a little bit and do the first section along the river Swale to Richmond instead of over the top of the moor through all the mining areas.

Be good and tidy up when you leave.

I hope you enjoyed your walking.

How many miles along average not too hilly footpaths do you think a 55 year old should walk every other day?

Plus figures for say a 60 year old or 65 year old or 70 year old?

We try to do between 3 and 5 miles every other day at home and between 5 and 10 miles a day when on holiday. Sometimes creeps up a bit to 13 miles at Minehead and a pottering all day 20 miles at the great dorset steamfair

Too much and you can use up calcium from your bones so it is not healthy.

Thanks for the responses guy and gals.

It's lonely down here on this forum.

Icelander. Walk as far as you want at any age. If you walk as far as you can, be sure you have adequate means of getting back.

Twooks. Understood, even without accents.

One does not use up calcium, one enhances one's bones when doing weight bearing exercises ;-)

Hubby and I are travelling to the Lakes near Ambleside next week, hopefully the weather will have improved to drizzle by then ...... maybe even sunshine (?) so am busy washing and packing [can't iron see accident report above ;-) ].

I am not fit. I haven't done serious walking for several years. So it will be an inititial meander along Derwenidioter, a look-see through Ambleside and Keswick, probably mid-week a stagger half way up Cat Bells ......... so long as we can get out and about we don't mind. Gone are the days when we were walking from 10.00 a.m. until T-time! Himself suggested Helvellyn if it's sunny ........ but our old dog was with us last time

:'(

Been, enjoyed and come back again. Weather was kind. The views from Stickle Tarn hike were lovely, right down to Windermere. We had good views over Rydal Water despite thin drizzle. Warm when the sun came out. Chilly at night which is when it rained the most. Watched wildlife on Loughrigg Tarn which is one of the most peaceful places I've been to ....... maybe I should be scattered there :-S but not yet ......... (lol)

Ambleside was not too busy; how anyone sells anything there astounds me, it's nearly *all* walking kit shops (lol) choice++. However I couldn't find the shoes I wanted ........

Off again this next weekend.

Taking Eeyore (the motorhome) off to North Yorkshire to finish the C2C.

We then stay near Whitby for 10 days, probably do a bit more of the Cleveland way, started that last year on holiday.
