cjrm1
Has anyone used this railway to cross through the Alps rather than driving?
mtravel
The Alps can be overcome in many ways, all comfortable. Without mentioning many Alpine passes passable without major problems: From France tunnels of Mont Blanc or Frejus. From Switzerland the San Bernardo or Gottardo tunnels. I don't understand the reason for using the Simplon tunnel. BTW a quick check limits the maximum height of vehicles to 3.1 meters. This impacts a large part of the motorhomes. derek500
Used once when driving home from Lake Maggiore. It's a drive on, stay in your van train. Not too expensive. The actual drive across the Simplon pass is very good, but we tried the train for the experience!
cjrm1
Yes I thought it looked intriguing if you wanted a break from mountain driving and given the cost it seemed too good to be true if you wanted a break from mountain roads How high and wide was the vehicle you were in and did you have much of a gap to the roof and sides of the carriage as over 2.7m high the width disappears quite quickly
