Deffheads
I would like some info on how the plastic inner panels of the habitation door is removed on our 2006 Dethleffs Esprit 7870 A class. The door is now not possible to lock with the key or the push button on the inside so I need to investigate without resorting to brute force and ignorance. I assume the pull closing bar has some impact on removal, but baffled as the panel seems to lip under the aluminium edging trim.
teccer1234
I had the same problem with my hymer drivers door when I wanted to change the lock, I found that after removing the handle etc I had to find the easiest part of the panel to get hold of and simply ease it out from the aluminium strip and go all the way round pulling it out, I used a thin paintt scraper to get under the trim to start, replacing the panel was similar, not so easy but eventually I got it back - not sure if this was the correct way but I couldn't think of any other way hope this helps
Derek Uzzell
There have been magazine articles about removing the inner panelling of motorhome habitation-area entrance doors in order to gain access to the locking mechanism, and a GOOGLE-search on "motorhome habitation door dismantling" retrieves quite a few entries. https://tinyurl.com/2s46kvmn It's perhaps stating the obvious, but the exact method required will depend on the make of door (eg. "Hartal"), the model of door and when it was manufactured. This 2017 O&AL forum thread asked about removal of the door panel of a 2003 Dethleffs Esprit 5830 https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Removing-Dethleffs-Esprit-door-panel/47043/ but there's no certainty that the same door would have been used on a 2006 Esprit 7870. There is a UK Dethleffs Owners clubs that may be able to provide detailed advice https://www.dethleffsowners.co.uk/
