If a battery has ‘abnormal’ terminals, adapters are marketed to convert such terminals into the ‘normal’ type. There’s a couple of examples here

The trouble comes when a replacement battery has ‘normal’ terminals and the cables that attached to the original battery’s ‘abnormal’ terminals need to be connected up. Although there are terminal adapters to deal with replacement of a ‘normal terminal’ battery with an ‘abnormal terminal’ battery, the vice versa task will require the cables to be modified.
