Dez
Hi. I'm planning on upgrading the earth strap on my Peugeot Boxer motorhome as I think it's one of the solutions to reducing ECU failures. This article also suggests adding a second earth strap - what is the benefit of this? --- http://www.aandncaravanservices.co.uk/earth-strap-problems.php Has anyone replaced the earth strap (gear-box to chassis) with a heavy duty one and if so, what did you use? I think the standard one is about 25mm wide and 4mm thick (continuous 205amp rating). I assume I just get something wider/thicker? Thanks.
colin
The 'upgrade' is not to increase it's capacity, it's to increase it reliability, the standard strap might look good and show low resistance on a meter, but might be high resistance at high amps. Not looked at the link, but added a second strap on same fittings as original, can't remember the specs.
Tintent115
Rather than faff about taking off the original strap on the 2016 Ducato I had I just added the secondary strap roughly as per the article in the link, on the basis you can never have too much in the way of an earth connection ! I haven't yet got round to doing something similar with the brand new van, but it is definitely on my list of jobs/upgrades......
Derek Uzzell
For some light reading, the following link is to a list of earlier O&AL forum threads in which the late-Allan Evans (forum user-name aandncaravan) posted and where "earth strap" was mentioned. https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/search/query.asp?action=search&searchforumid=all&keywords=earth+strap&author=aandncaravan&days=&Submit=Search A GOOGLE-search on "ducato earth strap" provides further information/discussion/photos https://tinyurl.com/mw943p8w The current asking-price for a 'genuine' X250/X290 Ducato/Boxer/Relay earth strap seems to be around £24 (example advert here) https://coastalmotorhomes.co.uk/fits%20fiat%20ducato%20peugeot%20boxer%20citroen%20relay%20earth%20strap%2006%20-%20onwards.html so a DIY replacement (or adding an additional strap) may be a cost-effective approach nowadays. (As Dez's motorhome is 2018-vintage, it's original factory-fitted earth strap SHOULD still be OK.)
Dez
Hi. Where did you add the connections on your 2016 engine block? Do you happen to have a piccy :) Thanks.
