DavyS
We have a glut of beautiful 'Scrumptious' apples so decided to store them in the motorhome Dometic absorption fridge. But first did some calculations: The Dometic RMS 8400 manual gives the following figures for the fridge energy consumption: Elec -120W on both 12v and 240v = 2.5kWh each day Gas uses 252W, 18.3 g/hr, typically 270g over 24 hours (Absorption fridges are very uneconomical, 75% duty cycles are normal.) Running Cost: Electricity at 40p/kwh, so in 1 day cost is 0.4£/kWh x 2.5kWh = £1 / day Bottled gas is £30/7kg, cost per day = £30 x 270g/7000g = £1.15/day. So £30/month to run a small 80 litre fridge. Expensive but probably slightly cheaper than buying fruit and gives much better apples!
colin
Whilst it's true apples like to be stored in a fridge, if like us you have large quantities of them that's a none starter, so they are stored in a unheated shed as generations of our family have done. Or better still 'converted' into alcohol ;-)
