paul.robinson Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 Hi - again, this may seem like a really stooooopid question, but here goes: I have a 240v external hook up, and a 2000w invertor. The invertor has a battery isolator fitted - do i need to isolate the invertor BEFORE i connect my 240v hook up?
arthur49 Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 It is VITAL that the inverter and EHU are not powering the 240v system at the same time. The best way to avoid that is auto selection of source ie when EHU is connected the inverter is automatically disconnected. To answer your question, without knowing how your electrics, 12v and 240v are wired, it is impossible to say if battery isolator needs to be switched off. But relying on having to remember to throw the switch is unsafe.
tonyishuk Posted October 14, 2022 Posted October 14, 2022 I am no electrician but following the advice above, I would suggest that a 3 pole, 2 way, centre off, 240 volt switch is required. The two feeds in are the 240 v mains supply and the other being the inverter 240 output. The out from the switch would feed the mhome 240 volt circuit. I can foresee problems trying to sort out the 240 Volt to 12 volt circuits. so maybe just consider the inverter 240 supply as being on separate sockets. rgds
