hello all

has anyone any experiences of attending semana santa processions .

we would like to see the fallas in valencia on 15-19th march and thought we could combine with seeing easter festivities if there are any within striking distance of valencia.

found a site giving details but only goes into details of seville and malaga.

does cartagena have any major celebrations

thanks

Hi, almost every town will have a procession at Easter. Some of the better ones are at:-

Benidorm in the old town area

Torrevieja very long procesion including one "float" carried by foreigners (mostly UK German and Netherland)

Murcia

Pilar de la horradada

Cartagena

These are all solemn processions and are taken very seriously in the local areas but are definatley well worth seeing.

Regards Tim

I didn't realise how close together Fallas and Easter were in 2008, only two days before Good Friday. We've lived in Valencia for four years now and never tire of Las Fallas. Don't forget the Mascletá (daily at 2pm in Plaza de Ayuntamiento) start on March 1.

I found this parking place 'Parking Estación de Santa Justa' in the city of Seville on the Spanish MH forum I belong to.

There are some photos taken from a forum member's apartment opposite.

The price is 15 Euros per day.

GPS co-ords

N 37º 23' 31.61"

W 5º 58' 22.56"

The general opinion of the Spanish 'foreros' is that it's quiet and well patrolled by security with buses to the city centre.

  • 7 months later...

hi everyone

just trying to get some updates on this old post

we have decided to eliminate the fallas for this year as it appears to be held on the same dates every year and we can postpone this experience until next year.

however, as circumstances dictate that we have to be back in uk before 6th april every year for forseeable future, this is the only year when the easter dates allow us to still be in spain.

we have therefore decided to try to watch the processions in jerez and if we are very lucky get to the moto gp race in jerez the following weekend.

this will mean a rather rapid trip home, with no meandering, but i think we will manage it (UNLESS BREAKDOWN OF VEHICLE OR JEANI HAPPENS ! )

mel e

where did you stay

how did you get into jerez

is there any public transport available to get in and out of the place

also is any wild camping allowed anywhere..

any other info would be much appreciated

kind regards

berti

It's about 4 years since we did the SS in Jerez, but there are a number of all year camp sites nearby. We stayed in one near Rota. Caravan Club's Camping Europe is best for up to date info. To get into Jerez, you can take a local bus or even your motorhome - there are places to park. The town is not that huge that you can't cover it on foot.

Get the route of the procession from the local tourist info place and make sure you get a good location early - on the outside of a corner gives a great view. The processions take place on more than just one day, so you do have options.

I have never seen any wild camping in this area, and we have been frequent visitors (Fino and Amontillado sherries are amongst the 5 top white wines in the world in the view of a number of experts).

If you want to try Sevilla, there is a camp site at the N-E corner, right under the approach to the airport's main runway, and a bus service from/to the site. But you will need to book ahead as it will be busy.

In southern Andalucia, almost all seasonal camp sites re-open for Easter, so expect lots of noisy Spaniards staying awake and dancing the flamenco until 1 or 2 in the morning - it's the Spanish way!
