I was thinking of writing to a photo magazine but thought with is a touring topic!

We are about to move house and having as you do a good old turn out, we have found hundreds of photo slides which we have taken over the past years caravaning and motorhoming.

I know that some one will be able to help! Is there any where we can get these slides transfered on to a disc, any suggestions most welcomed. :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

Hi Paul,

Google "transfer slides to CD/DVD", there are hundreds of companies that do this -

we got a lot of ours transferred, not cheap [sorry can't remember what we paid ] but it fairly labour intensive. Make sure they are 'fluff free' you can clean any funny marks off using the various programs available - but it's better if they are clean to begin with.

We think it's been worthwhile, they are much more accessible and take up virtually no [physical] space.

Have printed off some really good shots and got them framed, looks very professional - didn't realise I was soo verrry talented *-)

I am not into slide photo's myself but my brother has transferred literally hundreds using a scanner of the type mentioned by Michelle, and a damn fine job he has made of them. It is only a cheap scanner costing around the £35 mark plus the cost of the slide carrier which was offered at the same time for an additional £12. I believe the make was Mustek (??) or something like that but until I see him I cannot confirm, my point being this cheapo scanner did a spectacularly good job so I would suggest that Michelles point is the way to go.

Quite remarkable results, once scanned they can be stored on any media or printed in the normal digital way

It really depends on what type of quality you are after and this differs greatly whichever route you take. Here are some options open to you;

Specialist Labs - Jessops transfer to CD at £10 for the first fifteen slides and then at 50p each.

Scanners - You need a dedicated slide scanner for this. Ordinary print scanners, with or without adapters, are not up to it and it is a pain frankly.

Camera Adaptors - If you own a digital SLR camera you can buy a copier attachment that replaces your lens. Very easy to do.

Light Box - Again if you have a digital SLR camera you can place your slides on a light box (black the surrounding out first) and copy them with a close up lens or filter.
