Monet Garden

Hi,

I have been there three times in the last few years, the latest being last year.

If you drive into the village of Giverney, you will find a car park at the rear of Monet's cottage (where the pay box is). The last time I was there, Camping-Car signs directed you to this car park. Drive to the top of the car park and you can stay overnight free of charge and also throughout the day of your visit - several often do and it is nice and quiet.

It is best to arrive late in the afternoon after most visitors have gone and there is plenty of space to be found. You will then be ideally situated for a morning visit before the coach parties arrive. There are no facilities available for water/dumping.

Last year we parked at the top near to the greenhouses and were enjoying our evening meal when a respectable looking French couple in smart clothes parked next to us in their (Paris registered) Renault. They opened their boot which was sheeted out with plastic and proceeded to load several shovels full of compost in from a large heap adjacent to the greenhouses before calmly driving off!

Hi -

we visited in May a couple of years ago, and stayed on a municipal at Vernon, just a few km from the garden on the night before vsiting. The site is listed in the CC continental guide under Vernon: les Fosses Rouges, 27950 St Marcel (tel 02 32 51 59 86). It's a very small rural basic site, but adequate for the purpose.

We then left quite early the next momrning to go to Monet's garden, parking in the car park mentioned in the previous posting, and there were a few motorhomes already there. we beat not only the coaches, but also the Japanese vistors...!
