spirou Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 Just some advice really. We're now on our third CBE 520 (nearly the same as 516) mains charger. All replaced under warranty. They all failed the same way and it seems the cause was insufficient use, as weird as it sounds. We have very little need to plug in, as driving and solar takes care of 95% of our needs all year round. But this type of use seems to have discharged/damaged capacitors in the seldom used charger causing it to go into a pulsing loop that didn't do much to supply the loads or charge the battery. After the latest episode we somehow managed to revive this last one but likely looking at buying the 4th unit depending on how it behaves in the coming weeks and months (not under warranty anymore) or having someone do some soldering to replace capacitors. Bottom line, we'll need to plug in every couple of weeks to avoid this scenario from now on.
Labby Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 It could be worth talking to apuljackelectronics.co.uk (01278588922) who may well have an answer to this problem or be able to suggest an alternative charger that will fit without problems.
Den Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 Funny you’ve mentioned this today. I’ve never had a problem, but last night I thought I’d plug it in for a few hours today. just want to make sure the batteries get a full charge occasionally
weldted Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 Possibly put an inline fuse or switch in the live feed from the charger to the batteries? Nothing ventured nothing gained. Or energy Blue smart ip22 Charger at leisure power for £124.99 12 volt 15 amp or they do a 30 amp one. leisurepower.co.uk
