Brizzy63 Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 Replaced my Fiat Ducato battery in August 2022 with a Bosch Car battery 12v 100Ah Type 019 S5013. After a good run battery gets to 12.8v but discharges to 11.8v after a week at rest. I have previously had issues with the radio but disconnected this. So far motorhome has started first time but I am concerned that battery is not performing as it should.
Brizzy63 Posted January 18, 2023 Author Posted January 18, 2023 I just message the motorhome. We have the old van bitz strikeback set up. Assume the info it sends back is correct.

It may or not be the actual battery terminal voltage. On my MH the voltage at the 12v sockets is about 0.3v lower than at the battery terminals .

If we guess this is a x250/290, the vehicle battery discharges on them at the best of times, add in extra's like strikeback and you can expect it to be worse.
Globebuster1 Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 You really need to measure the voltage at the terminals to get a true reading. As Colin says, there is always some kind of parasitic draw with modern vehicles. It would pay you not to let the voltage drop too low - as it appears that this can be one of the common issues with the dreaded Airbag ECU failure. Even if you have solar [and that is configured to charge the starter battery] it still pays to give a top up charge via EHU, especially at this time of year.
Derek Uzzell Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 Brizzy63's motorhome is a 2009 Bessacarr model. This 2012 forum thread discussed unusually high starter-battery discharge on Ducatos built around then https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/topic/25845-battery-drain-on-a-new-fiat-23-euro5-enginge/ It was a fairly common complaint, but I don't think a guaranteed solution was ever arrived at. Given the age of the motorhome, it might be worth replacing its earth strap or adding a supplementary strap. This is one of those ploys that should do no harm and just might do some good. It's been suggested here many times when Ducato/Boxer electrical maladies have been asked about - sometimes it works magic; sometimes it does not. https://www.aandncaravanservices.co.uk/earth-strap-problems.php
Labby Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 If there is a rear camera fitted it may be worth checking that it is not using some power even when off , as it may be in a standby mode .
weldted Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 If you look at your rear view camera through your smart phone the if the infered is on it will show up
Brizzy63 Posted January 26, 2023 Author Posted January 26, 2023 Thanks for your replies. Tested battery at the terminals. Got a reading of 12.2V after a week, got to 13.2 after a 50 mile run out. Seems to be starting ok.
Derek Uzzell Posted January 26, 2023 Posted January 26, 2023 If you've obtained a reading of 13.2V, either you have not allowed adequate time to elapse before taking the reading, or whatever method you are using to take the reading is flawed.
