Mom,

 

Whilst I agree entirely with what you say, I wonder if you have misunderstood what my original posting was about?

 

1. It was not about storing passwords safely - which I agree you should do - but about storing data held, for example in Word or Excel files safely. The solution you propose does not adress this issue.

 

2. The solution I proposed does not encrypt the entire disk, but simply creates a file of any size you define (big enough to hold those files you need to encrypt) anywhere on your existing disk. Until this file is 'loaded', it is just another file on the disk, like all the others, except it contains total gobbledegook. Once loaded, it becomes a disk drive in its own right into which you can transfer files you want encrypted, creating a driectory structure just like you would on your other drive(s).

 

3. Of course, you could also store your passwords in a Word or Excel file and keep this file inside the exncrypted one for ease of access.
