I have WAECO Travel cool 12v/ 240v roof air on new van.

as summer has hardly begun cant really comment. except to say, it seems to work well and not to noisy so should be OK to use on sites...

plus its soft start so should work OK on A 4 amp supply

So far, never found a need for aircon in the conversion - cab aircon while travelling is a real boon, however.

If you do go for roof aircon, be aware that it will only work on hookup, which really does restrict your overnight options, as many camp sites, both here and abroad, have a limited number of pitches with hookup. Even though advertised as 12/240volt, full aircon units will flatten a bank of leisure batteries quite swiftly - the 12 volt is prsemably designed for use when driving.

Absolutely correct Mel, the 12 volt option is intended for use whilst driving. The smallest Waeco unit is the 1000Watt and this will draw 50 Amps plus at 12 Volts. Yes I know 50 X 12 + 600 but Waeco rate their units this way, their 1500 Watt unit only draws 1000 Watts of electric power, they claim the remaining 500 Watts is from "evaporative cooling". Not quite sure what they're evaporating though.

we've only got cab air, and wouldn't be without it when travelling south or any time travelling into the sun.

we usually use sites, and make do with an office fan oscillating on its lowest setting for the living area but we have an advantage as a panel van (conversion) with a large door to let cooler air in during the evening.

Have thought about fiamma roof van tho in the roof light tho but not gone down that route yet
