We are going to hire a motorhome in September for a week to try it before we decide to buy a motorhome.Just wondered how you seasoned professionals go about booking sites .Do you book sites to take you through all the week before you set off or do you just book the first site to get you started and then use your mobile to book day to day to give you more freedom of places to visit?

Hi Roy,

September is usually a busy month on most sites as peace returns after the children are back at school, therefore it would be advisable to plan a route and then book the sites accordingly.

I have attached a couple of links with various site listings that you may find useful - enjoy the holiday.

Should,nt need to book ahead in September Roy. What we do is simply agree on a general area we want to visit and pull in on any conveniant site we come across. It will help if you have one of the club site books, but all popular areas will have plenty of sites to choose from.

Most probably you will be touring, but if you plan to stay a few days in one place then still just book the one night as the site you,ve always dreamed of is always half a mile up the road and waiting to be discovered the following day.

Know what you mean Baz, even the aquatic plants in our pond are starting to dry out. Don,t be tempted to water your plants for a week or two as this will encourage and strengthen the root system. Wait until they are brown and crumble to the touch then throw them in the compost bin. Hope this helps.

Hi Roy, we do both, booking some sites in advance if we know where we want to go and taking whatever we find in between. You should be able to find sites with spare pitches in September but it might depend on where you plan to go. I'd suggest not trying to cover too much ground in just a week or you'll spend all your time driving and not see much. Last September we started with a long weekend in North Devon, then down to Longleat for two nights (expensive site but the house and grounds are worth a visit) then we drove up to Yorkshire staying two nights on a site in a small village just south of York before going in to York for the Northern Motorhome Show over the weekend at the racecourse. We pre booked the first weekend's site, phoned Longleat CC site on the way there, took pot luck on the village site in Yorkshire and were booked in advance for the show.
