Guest John Pollock
Does anyone know a company who will insure a new motorhome for 3 - 4 months in UK + Europe for a NZer who intends to holiday in it then ship it back to NZ? Seems to be a niche here that no UK insurance co. wants to occupy. We arrive in mid-July and hope to buy a vehicle immediately.
Guest Mel E
You do not have to be a UK resident to insure a vehicle that is registered in the UK - but you must have a UK address. However, as a new policy holder you will have to buy a year's cover and very few insurance companies now give any refund during the first year of a policy, so you'll probably have to pay for a year even though you only need 3 months' cover. (The reason is that the first year's premium pays a large bonus to the agent/broker.)
Guest John Pollock
Thanks Mel, The problem is that I cannot find an insurance co. interested in insuring anyone other than a UK resident - at any price - other than a co. called "Downunder Insurance", run by NZers who will insure to a maximum of only 20000pounds. With all the colonial babyboomers travelling in UK + Europe you'd think someone would be keen to fill the niche. Regards John
