Mel E Posted July 31, 2007 Share Posted July 31, 2007 Bill, I only quoted the famous cases: there are many involving light aircraft pilots (PPLs). Whilst I agree with you about being over-stringent on medicals (I'm suffering myself from this), they are simply covering themselves which, as public employees, is what you would expect. They don't get paid for taking unnecessary risks! As far as HEART ATTACKS are concerned, it is an indisputable fact that an ECG - as required for a PPL Medical - can only detect existing damage to the heart. If you've never had a problem, it won't tell you you're about to have one in 3 days' time! But other things should point to increased risk, such as raised blood pressure, and the Doctor then has a duty to investigate this - not just for your PPL/Driving Medical, but becasue he also has a duty of care to you as a patient.
