On street parking - Just learned a new insult

As we all know, on street parking bays are often too short for our vehicles.

But, I was told by a 'Civil Enforcement Officer' in Central Manchester that as long as all 4 wheels are in the bay I am OK.

(other councils may differ??)

That said, doesn't mean you will get away with it.

Some don't like you encroaching on to their bay.

Just got into one when I was accosted by a woman with a gob on her like Angela Rayner 🤯

'Oi .....HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET OUT OF THERE...TOOLBAG!!'

She had room to get out but I wasn't going to argue with her  🤯

So I had to move again 🫠

I have been called many things but I think I can't recall being called a toolbag before  So I have learned a new insult and have at least got something out of the encounter 😉

I suspect the "Americanisation" of  toolbar  might be toe rag. I thought I had heard most slang terms in my 77 years however I had never come across toolbar. Thank you Derek for your clarification of the meaning. Amazing what surfaces on a motorhome forum.

Nice to see Rich is even giving Derek praise, 2024 could be a good year on the forum. Cheers,

That's a bit unfair Gary, Derek and I have had our differences over the years, but I have always acknowleged and appreciated his depth of knowledge and  ability to find answers, at times, almost single handedly providing support for those in peril on the roads.

Thanks Derek - never, in the field of human motorhoming has so much support been provided to so many by so few!

This fulltimer has produced a youtube video showing how he finds parking spots to sleep in.  You could skip the first 10 minutes

Harder for him than it is for me because he has a factory built coachbuilt instead of a customised plain van and is looking for places to sleep during the day.  Which rules out places like outside a school - which could be ideal for me parking overnight - arriving late and leaving early.  Also sloping ground is not a serious problem for me as I have my bed supported by a ratchet strap at each corner to level it up.  I use 2 gas rings on 2 camping gaz cylinders I can level up by putting stuff under the cylinders. Also packing I can put under my armchair. So in a couple of minutes I have a perfectly level bed, chair and gas rings irrespective of the slope of the van.  So he drives past places that would do for me.

I seldom have to look for places now because I go back to places I have been before.  I can now go practically anywhere on the UK mainland without worrying about where to park overnight.  So no need to go abroad.

I commend your positivity John.

I try to learn something new every day. Trouble is the more I learn the more I realise how much I don’t know.

Cattwg ☺️

Same here.

Relevant to motorhomes so bear with me

Just learned another expression from Dominic Cummings.  'Dead Cat'  Thats where you are discussing something thats about to get embarrassing for someone so they throw a hypothetical 'dead cat' on the table as a distraction - 'Look at that' Immediately the discussion changes to the 'dead cat'  Like when you are getting round to peerages and ppi contracts tor donors and cronies they point to migrant boats and say - look at that, blame them, stop the boats.

Relevance to motorhomes - well it worked for me when filling up my water carrier outside a Yorkshire Dales Visitor Centre.  Taking a while because they had turned the water pressure down.  Park Ranger came out and said the tap is for water bottles, not water carriers, as we have been told to economise.  I pointed to  the notice board next to the car park pay & display machine.  There was a notice with a photo of some cute little animal above the caption 'your car park fee looks after him'.  I suggested they replace the photo of the cute animal with a photo of the National Park Chief Executive who is on some huge salary.

Well that really pushed his button.  Sent him off on a tirade about how he was having to do more work with less rangers and no overtime. Then he went back inside and turned the water pressure up so I could fill my containers faster 😄

Your last post has no relevance to motorhomes what so ever!

Paragraph one - is just your usual poorly disguised political rant

Paragraph two - a story of your experience filling up a water container, on the flimsy pretext that it will 'dead cat' your first paragraph 😁🥱

I get that we don't want to turn the motorhome forum into a political discussion forum.

But do you really want to join countries like Russia, Belarus and North Korea where we have to censor anything critical of the Government?  (But its OK to have a jab at a member of the opposition like I did in post 1)

I just wanted to say who I had learned the expression 'dead cat' from and give an example

Same as I did with the expression 'toolbag'  The woman with a gob on her like Angela Rayner.

Dear John,

I'm not sure you do 'get it' - because you have just done it again in your last reply!

It seems you are unable to either raise, or respond to any topic without some political under current.

Even when you start a new thread, the subject always seems to take the back seat, because eventually at some point you just can't help inserting some political slant to it.

Take this 'dead cat' situation for example - you know full well it's not relevant  - probably why it's now consigned to Chatterbox.

Now please ask yourself this - How is it that just about every other thread on 'Matters' is free of politics or opinion, with the exception of your input?

I'm sure there are many other forums where you can express your political or social views.

As I've said before - you destroyed your own 'soap box' [along with one or two others] and have been instrumental in bringing Chatterbox to where it is now - defunct.

Please don't do the same with Matters.

This thread would have still been in motorhome matters if you hadn't stuck your oar in

Where is the political undercurrent in stainless steel mug?

You objected to that in this thread

As far as I can see your only contribution to this forum is stalking me to pick at what I have written

'You, you are the one that spoils things with your constant digging and moaning.'

Pot calling the kettle black!

Sorry John but it is your fault the thread has been moved. Cut the constant political digs, keep the discussion on topic and threads will not be moved.

Or would you rather the thread be moderated and moved back to MM?

Keith.

Dear John,

I think you'll find it was Den who commented on the S/S mug distraction in his post 6/2

I made no objection whatsoever.

As Keith rightly said - If we all stay on topic and leave out the tenuous political stuff  I'm sure we'll all get along just fine.
