The following comes from http://www.motorhomeparking.co.uk/scot.htm, hope it helps:

Glasgow

On 25th August 2006 Glasgow City Council provided the following information:

There are a few sites in Glasgow that would suit this type of vehicle, detailed in the table below. Note that no specific bays are available for motorhomes or caravans and where parking bay confines are exceeded additional tickets must be purchased.

Car Park Location Height Restriction Toilet Facilities Waste Disposal Overnight Parking Access

Burnside Street Near New City Road N/A N/A N/A 6pm to 8am; £1.00 Narrow entrance/exit

Cathedral Precinct Opposite Royal Infirmary N/A N/A N/A 6pm to 8am; £1.00

Newton Street Under Kingston Bridge N/A N/A N/A 6pm to 8am; £1.00 Narrow entrance/exit

Centre Street Junction with Nelson Street N/A N/A N/A 6pm to 8am; £1.00 Narrow entrance/exit

Glasgow City Council have parking details on their web site.

Users of this web site have provided the following information:

June 2006. Glasgow Fort Retail Park - no height restrictions.

June 2006. Kelvin Bridge Subway Park & Ride car park - supposedly no height restrictions but we drove up & down the A82 and whilst we saw the subway there was no sign of a P&R car park.

June 2006. West Street Subway Park & Ride car park - no height restrictions but on the wet Sunday we were there we decided we wouldn't even risk leaving a 20p second hand bike there, never mind a £20K motor home.

Many thanks for your replies. It seems that there is nothing close to Glasgow which is very appealing as a place to stay. Trains/buses from further out, eg Motherwell, are not slosely convenient to Campsites, according to Site owners/offices. Parking in the city for our vehicles sounds to be unfriendly and difficult. So we have decided to give Glasgow a miss this year, unless something else comes to light.

Thanks again, Neil B

Neil the site suggested by Jules is very handy for Glasgow with good public transport links straight into the heart of the city. If you do decide to visit outwith the many retail therapy outlets available may I suggest a visit to the Museum and Art Gallery at Kelvingrove and across the road the excellent Transport Museum where between the two you should be able to pass a very interesting and informative day.

I agree.  There is also the Burrell collection on Pollokshaws Road, and the centre of Glasgow is delightful.  Forget "Tongs ya Bass": go and enjoy it!  The MacIntosh art school is worth a look, as is the Willow Tea Rooms.  Lots of places to eat as well.  It is a sophisticated, lively city with lots going on and a unique atmosphere.  Needs a dry day to be seen at its best, though!

www.northlan.gov.uk/leisure+and+tourism/parks+gardens+and+play+services/strathclyde+country+park/strathclyde+country+park++camping+and+caravan+site.html

Strathclyde Country Park adjacent to motorway.

Passed last weekend and it looked good.

found it -

the reference also needs http:// at the front

so, for info, this site only seems to take links with the full address ie http://www. etc and then the link turns blue [bit like litmus paper :->

and if you have a long link - address go to tiny url web site as quoted by Frank and follow their instructions - works a treat

any problems with using it come back and let us know.

B-)

the camp site looks good too

Hi Hamish,

the web site tiny url gives an abbreviation of long web addresses, so that they fit neatly onto a thread.

click on http://tinyurl.com/ [note if this link is going to work than it will have turned light blue.]

copy the address of the relevant page - in your case the one that starts

" www.northlan.gov.uk/leisure+and+tourism/parks+" etc

and paste it into the area shown on the tiny url web site where it says

"Enter a long URL to make tiny" and click on the action box

this then comes up with a much abbreviated version which you then copy and paste into your post. like http://preview.tinyurl.com/2ax7lu

:-S :-S does this make sense??

B-)

it's just one of those little things that you pick up over time to make life a little easier, apart from anything else the really long links are prone to break up and become unusable

note it doesn't work on all sites - some webmasters prefer to restrict links to versions that they can control
