J9withdogs
I have a VW T4 based Holdsworth. There is a loud squealing noise only when I have it on full lock, which sounds the same as a slipping fanbelt. I was told it was to do with the power steering and not to worry, but should I be worried?

Brambles
Hi, If it is unusually louder than normal when on full lock, check your drive belt for the power steering pump is not needing retensioned. Jon.
davenewellhome
Its simply the PAS drive belt slipping slightly, it only does it on full lock because that loads the hydraulics up to maximum. Simplest solution is to not go quite to full lock but its worth getting the belt checked and possibly replaced if its worn. D.
J9withdogs
Thankyou all for your replies! Unfortunately, Dave, if I don't put it on full lock when I reverse out of my drive, I will hit a telegraph pole and my neighbour will win a long-standing bet (lol)
W3526602
Hi, I understand that a belt squeals due to it rubbing on the bottom of its pulley, due to either a worn belt or a worn pulley. A V-belt relies on it grip on the sides, and there is virtually no grip due to tension if the belt is bottoming. If a new belt doesn't fix it, you need a new pulley. Probably due to them making pulleys out of plastic nowadays. But get a second opinion before spending your money.
