hi everyone

thanks to everyone who took the trouble to reply to my posts about

the show.

i think i have it all sussed now !!

i have decided to visit the show in the mid-week ( tue/wed )as traffic jams and large crowds aren't our cup of tea.

hopefully the weekend visitors will have gone home and it will be a bit calmer !!

however, i am crossing on sunday night 19th so i seem to have quite a bit of time to spare before arriving at dusseldorf.

this is our first time to germany so would appreciate any help on ...

what is the best route to take to dusseldorf ..given that i am not in any hurry and i don't like paying tolls!!

any info on nice aires/ stopping places or places of interest en route to the show would be appreciated.

after the show we would like to travel along the mosel for a bit and then head back hoping to stay at Lac Du Der for 2/3 nights

our total time away is 28 nights...

kind regards

berti

Gent is on one fairly leisurely route to Dusseldorf and is (in our opinion) a much under-rated city. Blaarmeersen campsite on the outskirts of town is excellent, with loads of facilities on site and nearby, and is well placed for visiting Gent.

If you are taking bicycles there is a very easy, largely off-road cycle path into the centre. If no bikes the local bus service runs about every 20 minutes and the bus stop is about 200 yards from the site entrance. It's quite exciting taking the bus too, as most of the drivers seem to be practicing for their next Formula 1 event.

It could provide a very pleasant first or last day (or two) of your trip, since it is not far from either Dunkirk or Calais.

The route we took from Dunkerque was:

On to the E40/A16 all the way into Belgium and past Brugge then into Holland and past Ghent we then change to the E17/A14 towards Antwerpen. Just past Antwerpen we continued onto the E313/A13 and then onto the E34/A21 past Eindhoven and on to the E34/A67 towards Duisburg and right onto the E31/A57 towards Neuss and picked up the signs to Messe Dusseldorf from their.

It was a fairly easy trip and we stocked up in Asten, just off at J36 of the E34/A67, a nice little place with a good supermarket etc and very cheap fuel, so we didn't have to mess about as we got nearer to Dusseldorf.

The below are taken from the Messe website which might be useful:

Hope this helps.
