Lenard
We have a 2019 Elddis Chatsworth CV40 panel van , which came with a 4m Dometic awning fixed to the roof. It was fully demonstrated at hand over, but then Covid struck before we had chance to use it, we have tried several times since but can't get the legs to lock in position (height). When you release the legs from there storage position they swing down and can be swivelled a number of ways and there is a lever on the legs to lock the legs at the desired height but so far we have had no luck at all, much to the amusement of the fellow campers, who also all failed. I have looked on the Web but can only find ones fixed to large American motorhomes with the legs that fit into shoes onto the side of the M/home. I have tried Dometic Caravan awning dealers and one that was selling stacks of them at one of the shows, who was honest in saying he had no idea how they worked. Anyone know where I can get a set of instructions from? Cheers Lenard
Geeco
A review of the Dometic website shows two images, one is the locking device on the roller end and the second is the cam lock on each leg. The roller lock will ensure the awning is held at the desired open/closed position while the cam lock allows the height to be adjusted to the desired height. Derek Uzzell
These videos demonstrate use of Dometic wind-out awnings fitted to Elddis motorhomes.
Adiebt
The locking mechanism for the legs is counterintuitive, you move them UP to lock them at the desired height . Takes a bit of force when they are first used which again is counterintuitive.
Derek Uzzell
It seems that the front legs' locking mechanism varies according to the particular Dometic awning fitted. These are a couple more related YouTube videos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A082WsJKuKE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BP4rCTIeYs And this is an entertaining 'wind test'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkjXnAoLFxU

The chap is bouncing the awning around putting huge stain on the arms and roof fixings. I would not buy a motorhome from them! The first You tube above is far better and he shows how to put no strain on the awning by angling the legs and only stowing the legs when the awning is almost completely stowed. Lenard
Hi, Thank-you one and all for the the replies, I think I may have spotted on the video's what I have not been doing, re- lifting the plastic cap up?. Can not quite see what difference that makes until I actually try it. I will give it a go next week and come back and report on how I got on!. Thankyou. Regards .Lenard
Derek Uzzell
Although the MDG video is highly detailed and demonstrates 'best practice', I believe the Dometic awning fitted to the VW camper shown differs from the type used on Lenard's Elddis Chatsworth CV40. The latter awning type has front legs with length adjustment using a plastic lever-operated locking mechanism that has a sliding plastic cover that prevents the leg being accidentally unlocked when down and houses the lever when the leg is stored back in the awning. This is probably the best video to show how the leg lock is used (about 1:30 minutes from the start) and these images may also help
Lenard
Thanks for that Derek, The awnings that fit directly to the wall of the M/Home differ to those that are mounted on the roof of the M/Home. The legs of my roll out awning store and unfold differently to those shown in the Video and the hinge arrangement is more substantial. I have not had a chance to check the sliding plastic bit yet (raining), so will come back?. REGARDS, LENARD.
