YorkshireGlobecar
We have this regularly, usually starting a warm engine. Van always starts, even in cold weather so am ignoring it. I have been told that this warning may indicate that 1 or more of the 4 glow plugs has failed, but if the van starts easily in cold weather then it is probably only 1 plug that has failed. Its a big job to change the glow plugs, and not unknown for them to beak off in the cylinder during removal, so definitely not a diy job. My local garage where I get the van serviced said they could do it, but if 1 breaks during removal, its a cylinder head off job which will become very expensive. Their advice was, If it starts, don't worry.
onecal
Hi Care is needed here if actually the glow plugs are actually faulty. This needs to be established first. If the are they do indeed need to be replaced as they may prevent a re gen (as in some engine models) and may end up with a costly repair as to a blocked DPF because of faulty glow plugs. Maybe "Ninian" will get back to us as to his exact year and model and how he got on Regards
Ninian
Hi, My van ia a 2014 Fiat Ducato X250. I'm currently in France but the " check glow plugs " message doesn't appear everytime I start the van, I can start the van 2 or 3 times and nothing appears and then the next start the message is back. The van starts everytime with no effort and runs normally. ?????
Keithl
Have you had it scanned for codes? And could it possibly be a wiring fault, seem all too common on modern vehicles!
onecal
Hi It may also be your glow plug controller After 5 or 6 engine starts the flashing warning light is extinguished. This may be confusing the issue slightly Get the codes read and see have you a code P0683 as it will remain stored showing a control module to PCM communication circuit fault Regards Edited May 22 by onecal
