hailstone damage

when we were in interlaken in the summer, we arrived to devastation. There was a freak hail storm, which ruined loads of campervans/caravans. There was a new van, which looked like it had been hit all over with a golf ball 8-)

It was a lucky escape by 2 days. Anyone ever seen this kind of damage before? It would be some repair bill 8-)

1983 - Swindon Wiltshire had hailstones as big as footballs, well that might be a slight exaggeration. It dented the aluminium roof of the caravan we had then, the insurance paid out £600 for a new roof.

We had fairly large hailstones whilst on the Mosel this year, fortunately no damage to the large Heki roof light, the GRP roof on my Autocruise should stand most hailstone assults.

A few years ago a friend of mine had heavy hailstone damage to his roof, but no leaks. The repair estimate was huge as it was a 22ft caravan, the insurance company would not pay it but told him when he sold the caravan they would make up the difference that the buyer/dealer knocked off for the damage. Which they did when he eventually part exchanged it. The difference between dealers exchange offer and book price turned out to be about half the repair price. Something to think about???

Quite a common occurrence in Germany. That’s why a GRP shell is preferable too aluminium which dents & tears easily.

You will be OK though with your EuraMobil ;-)

Hi,

We had this happen on the A6 right by Hockenheim race circuit and at Lindau on Lake Constance in the same year. The hailstones were like golfballs and hit with extreme noise. That same time there was millions of pounds damage done to aircraft at Munich airport. Fortunately we sustained no damage on either occasion.

A collegue of ours had his caravan (Ace Marauder) written off due to extensive hailstone damage in the Uk, he actually did alright as he bought the salvage very cheaply and continued to use his virtually 'free' caravan, it made a good talking point on sites on many occasions.
