I have a Truma c3402 boiler I’m constantly having to bleed the system and on the control knob doesn’t light up to tell me the water is heating

we are newbies to this so some help and guidance would be most appreciated

Welcome to the Out&AboutLive forums, Mark.

It could be helpful to have details of the motorhome you own.

Regarding the Truma Trumatic C-3402 unit, there were two control panels - an early one

and a later version

I'm doubtful that a new early panel could be obtained nowadays and a new 'later' panel would cost at least £100. Consequently, if you know that your C-3402 heater is heating water properly (despite the orange water-heating light on the panel not illuminating) you might be better living with the issue rather than buying a new panel and finding that the water-heating light still does not illuminate. (If you could find a friendly motorhome owner who could temporarily swap their fully-working Trumatic C control-panel for yours, this should help decide whether you buying a new panel would be worthwhile.)

Assuming that there's no major leak in your motorhome's water system, the need to continually bleed the heater suggests that water may be draining back into the motorhome's fresh-water tank and air is entering the heater through its breather valve as a result. But for this to happen would primarily depend on the type of fresh-water pump your motorhome has.

If the fresh-water pump is the 'submersible' type (ie. will be submerged in the water in the water tank) there should be a non-return valve (NRV) either integrated with the pump, attached to it or separate.

If the fresh-water pump is a pressure-sensitive type (and outside the water tank) a NRV valve is generally not present as the pump itself acts as one. (Doesn't mean there will never be a NRV with this type of pump, just that there usually is not.)

Without knowing any details of your motorhome!!! I can't make a guess at what type of water pump it might have, nor whether there might be a NRV.

Hi

Maybe the best guidance one could possible give and to cut out silly guessing, is to bring it to someone experienced  that knows what they are working on, especially if you have no experience (as you say you are a newbie) when working on such an appliance within a motorhome. They should able to advise you pretty quickly as to the faults on board and hopefully be able to rectify them for you ,if you find it cost effective to repair same

Regards
