Bucephalus
Hello Something I have heard of but know nothing about. I was watching Motorhome Mike on YouTube and they were saying that besides the extra BHP and torque increase, there is a big benefit in fuel consumption. Having looked around in t'internet it's a minefield which makes me feel like it is easy to end up with a bodge job. Our motorhome is 6 years old so there are no warranty issues. We regularly to a car on an A Frame so the extra grunt would be handy. We also have a comformatic gearbox. Would this take the extra power/torpue? We live in the Stoke on Trent area so any steers towards a reliable trader would be welcome.
Den
I used a company in Malvern for our 2015 fiat 130 hp. he took it up to 165 hp and the difference using the motorways in France using the Milau bridge was much easier and yes fuel economy did increase. its not that I want to drive faster, just less gear changing and it certainly helped cost wise I think is about £160 ish and took around an hour. ill have our new motorhome done when it arrives. While it’s due warranty he can for £20 remap to the old horsepower. den
Caddies104
Did you have to inform your insurance company and if so was there an extra cost for the modification?
Bucephalus
The chap on Motorhome Mike suggested it was worth informing them that it had been done in case they need to requote. An increase in power on a diesel Motorhome is not the same as a petrol Audi or BMW. Edited August 15 by Bucephalus
Den
I did inform my insurance by phone and email and no increase payable. I certainly thought there would be

Derek Uzzell
Based on your earlier postings, I believe you have one of these - a 2018 Hymer B778 PL on a 5000kg chassis. The motor will be Fiat's 2.3litre Multijet2 probably (hopefully!) with a 177PS/400Nm output. There are two ways of increasing output - fitting a tuning box or remapping. This company https://www.chipexpress.com/ offers the former method and suggests a power increase from 177PS to 205PS (226PS maximum) and a torque increase from 400Nm to 455Nm (523Nm maximum). The advertised price is £395. Chipping/remapping has been discussed here fairly regularly: this is a 2022 forum thread. https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/topic/54026-remapping-a-2018-ducato/ You've asked "We also have a comformatic gearbox. Would this take the extra power/torpue?" Assuming your Hymer's motor is the 177PS version, you have a relatively small capacity engine already producing a sizeable chunk of horsepower and torque, plus a transmission that would be VERY expensive to repair if a serious problem occurred due to the extra load being placed on it. I'd leave well alone. Remember the parable about the wise and foolish virgins. 🙂
