david lloyd
Had a small incident last weekend when a car that stopped to let me out of a car park onto a busy road then decided I wouldn’t make it into the gap and drove across me as I slowly pulled onto the carriageway - lesson learned. So, insured with the Caravan and Motorhome Club (quite reasonable price) who arrange their insurance through Devitts Insurance. But, had to ring a company called 4th Dimension who handle the initial claims call. They texted me with another number which turned out to be Allianz. Apparently, my call had been noted but not put through as a claim so they put me through to the insurer - Highway. However, the young lady who answered was from LV Insurance! My guess is that each of the 6 companies involved would want a bit of a cut of my initial premium - unless they are all the same company? BruceM
It’s quite common for insurance brokers to offer a ‘white label’ product to clubs and similar groupings. For instance Saga Insurance used to use a white label product from international insurance broker Bain Clarkson (later Bain Hogg and now Aon). So a call to Saga Insurance was once actually a call to Bain Clarkson – who would answer ‘Saga Insurance’. Saga have since brought that broker function in-house. So Devitts Insurance being a broker will have placed your insurance with an insurer having given a cut of premium to Caravan and Motorhome Club and having taken a cut themselves. It’s quite possible that claims handling has been outsourced to a specialist call centre, in this case 4th Dimension who provide a motorcycle claims handling service. I suspect that as Devitts do a lot of motorcycle Insurance then Devitts use them to handle all initial calls. They directed you to Allianz Alianz owns the LV Insurance brand and Highway Insurance is part of the LV branding. Think of them as sub-brands/sub-companies – a bit like Smarty is a sub-brand of 3-Mobile. Its just a way of differentiating product in a potential customers mind. So by my reckoning the premium cuts would have gone to Caravan and Motorhome club Devitts Insurance (the broker) 4th Dimension (to pay for initial call handling so probably paid out of the broker’s commission) Allianz group (ie LV/Highway)
